View Full Version : Noise from a Radeon 9800 in a G4 Tower

I just installed a Radeon 9800 in my G4 MD Powermac 1.25 DP and I'm bothered by the noise. Yea, a G4 Hover and I'm complaining about the noise from my graphics card.

When I first installed the card there was a sound like a fan blade hitting a wire. I opened and closed the G4 a few times (rearanging the power cord each time) and that noise went away. Now I can hear noise from the Radeon card that sounds as if the cooling fan is slightly out of balance. And believe it or not that noise is more anoying than the G4 fans

I know that I'll get used to the slight vibrational noise from the fan, but if that is not the way the Radeon 9800 is supposed to sound I want to return it to ATI for exchange (which they have agreed to do).

So,

A) Is it broke and I should return it?
B) Should I "suck it up" and ignore the noise since my graphics card is a heck of a lot better than what's in the iMac G5s?
C) Should I quite whining and go back to playing Halo with ear phones on?

Thanks,

Joe

If it is not right, then i would get it fixed, otherwise you probably won't be truly happy with it. I know that I wouldn't anyway. ;)
