.Mac Backup with Proxy Servers

.Mac's backup program doesn't seem to be able to talk to .Mac through my universitys proxy server. This is especially a problem as I backed up my entire internal hard disk onto and external one, formatted the drive and now Backup can't verify my membership to let me restore the files that i need!

Does anyone know how I can get round this?
