TheStreet reports on a new research note from Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar claiming that Apple appears to be ramping toward a possible November launch for a Verizon version of the iPhone.
The Mac maker has also told its manufacturing partner Asustek to plan on starting full-scale production of a CDMA version of the iPhone to be available at Verizon as early as November, Kumar says. The report is yet another confirmation of Apple's long-awaited Verizon iPhone, which still awaits final approval from the two companies that have not always seen eye-to-eye.
Multiple reports have pointed to Pegatron, an operating division of Asustek, as the manufacturer for the Verizon iPhone, a departure from Apple's partnership with Foxconn/Hon Hai for manufacturing of current GSM-based iPhones.

Kumar notes that a Verizon launch could push Apple's iPhone production for the year past 40 million, well ahead of Wall Street expectations. He cautions, however, that such a launch is not a certainty and is ultimately subject to the decisions of Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

A recent survey of Verizon customers showed 17% of the sample registering as "very likely" to purchase an iPhone should it appear on the carrier. Despite the hopes of many that Apple might make a Verizon iPhone announcement at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) early next month, most observers have indicated that such an announcement is unlikely, seeing such a move more likely to occur at Apple's traditional iPod-focused media event in September at the earliest or even not until 2011.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_3; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7)

If this timing is even remotely right, it makes no sense for a CDMA phone. However, it makes perfect sense for an LTE, CDMA, HSPA uberphone that the Verizon CTO has been talking up.

Oh Look! More Verizon News!

Does anyone else think this whole Verizon iPhone thing is starting to get like the Apple Tablet rumors? Year after year there's some new revelation that THE RELEASE IS IMMINENT!

So tired of this non-story!

The iPhone is not coming to Verizon.

When Apple originally approached Verizon before the iPhone launch, the CEO of Verizon told Steve Jobs and Apple to take a hike.

Cingular (now rebranded as AT&T, but really has nothing to do with the "old" AT&T) took a gamble and it paid off.

Over three years later we're still talking about the iPhone.

Beyond the technology limitations of the Verizon's network, Apple will not go their out of pure spite.

Don't be surprised to see the iPhone on the other networks, just to rub it in Verizon's face.

If the companies haven't closed a deal yet, then there's no doubt we won't hear a thing at WWDC. Jobs will have the most negotiating leverage against Verizon immediately following a successful AT&T exclusive launch.

That new AT&T ETF makes upgrading in June a much tougher proposition though...

Magic 8 Ball says...

Not in November Not in December.

Not in a house, not on a mouse.

Not in 2010, not in a den.

Why must they tease unfortunate verizon sufferers so.

Such is the life of these ridiculous analysts. Nobody remembers them when they are wrong, so they have nothing to lose in making things up.

What is the suicide rate at Asustek?

How do I become one of these "analysts"?

Seems they have a job almost as good as a weather person....neither is accountable for anything they say!!

Every single person in the world is an analyst. They can make up crap as much as they want. Don't know why this makes front page.

Ummm... an almost instantaneous increase in sales by about 8 mn. handsets (17% of the approx 50mn customers Verizon has) is not doing it "out of pure spite".

A nice side benefit will be that it will completely crush the Android eco-system.

The only reason Android exists (and is getting stronger by the day, hurting the iPhone) is because Apple is not present on 3 of the 4 carriers in the US.

Also, CDMA technology is superior to GSM technology. I would always support GSM, primarily because of replaceable sim cards, allowing you to travel to different countries and use the same phone, but a local number, but that doesn't mean its the better tech.

Enough Already

Who cares every other day you do a rumor on Verizon! As bad as AT&T is Verizon is worse. If apple were smart and really willing to make a CDMA version of the Iphone they would put it on sprint and make it 4G WiMax and let it have the speed it needs.

I'm still a skeptic that we'll be seeing a Verizon iPhone this year, but let's just assume for a minute that the rumors are true. What do you think AT&T would have done over the last six months......

For one, they might negotiate a great $29/mo with no contract iPad service plan for Apple to wait until November to release the iPhone to Verizon, thereby getting lots of upgraders and more current Verizon customers over to AT&T for the iPhone HD (or whatever it's called)

AND

They'd raise the ETF to prevent people from jumping to Verizon after buying the new iPhone in June.

It would all make sense then. That being said, it's only wishful thinking on my part that Verizon will get the phone this year.

LOL. Not sure how you people come up with this stuff. At worst there will be an Android niche for a long time, kind of like there will always be MobileMe/Macbook Air/iPod Classic/Zune/etc. users.

The only reason Android exists (and is getting stronger by the day, hurting the iPhone) is because Apple is not present on 3 of the 4 carriers in the US.

...and because some people don't buy into Apple's business model centered around restriction, not to mention all the other things that don't exist on the iPhone until OS 4.

Also, CDMA technology is superior to GSM technology.

In theory, yes. In reality it's really not.

Even if they manufacture a CMDA version of the iPhone they still have to go through negotiations to get it to verizon, this is what pisses me off sparks of hope that come from just the manufacturing of a CMDA version they have to go hrough so many other stuff first.
