I have a brand new 15 inch i5 mbp....I put a cd in to rip it onto itunes...
it was really scratched...
now the computer ate my disc (I know I can restart and it will be ok, that's not my question)...
Shouldn't my brand new mbp be able to cope with a scratched disc? It seems a bit bizarre that the entire computer would freeze just because a disc is scratched..
also, it seems like it takes much longer to rip cds than it does on my pc...it doesn't just seem like it...it takes almost twice as long...nothing else is going slow...so maybe its just a weird itunes problem.
Any advice?

Any advice?

Throw away the physically damaged disk.

1. Wrong forum section. This is "Mac Pro" not "MacBook Pro".

2. A deep enough scratch can mean that the disc is rendered unreadable, no matter how new your computer is.

3. Slot-in drives like the one on your MBP are slower than full size 5.25" drives. That's where the slower ripping speed comes from. You can always hook up an external (USB/FireWire) 5.25" optical drive to take full advantage of your fast processor when ripping.
