moving a RAID0 from one machine to another

How do I go about this best?

It will be a software RAID which will be backed up to TM. Is it better to rebuild the RAID from Time Machine within the new machine or can I just transplant the drives into the new MP? And how does the TM drive behave in the new machine?

If it's an OSX software RAID, the RAID should work after simply transplanting it, since the RAID information is stored on the member drives.

The TimeMachine backup is "linked" to the drive(s) it is backing up, so it shouldn't matter whether you move it along or put it into an external case or whatever.

You could attempt putting the drives in another machine without messing with cloning/using TM, but that may not work properly.

Either way, have a clone or TM backup. That way you can move the drives and reinstall your system and set up the RAID 0 if you must. Then migrate your users with Migration Assistant or TM.

This is correct under the condition the system hardware is identical.

If not however, the driver files installed won't be correct, and cause problems (chipset is a big one). So in this instance, the best way to proceed, is to backup the important data first, create the array in the new system, and restore the data (assuming the drives in the original system must be used in the new one).

Assuming the drives don't have to be relocated to create the array, then migration is another means for transferring data (can save some time).
