Okay, so I'm not sure if theres a definitive answer here, and I'm sure someone else has asked a very similar question but I don't even know where I'd begin if I wanted to search this.

The iPhone 3G came out in July 08. I got mine in October 08. When the 3Gs was announced (june 09), I realized I wouldn't be eligible for an upgrade, but I sold my 3G and bought a 3Gs anyways. I don't remember how much it ended up costing me, and now I'm finding myself in the same boat. I think AT&T gave some sort of discount to existing iPhone customers, but I can't remember how it worked.

So right, now i've got a 32gb 3Gs which i can sell for ~450, and then buy the new iPhone, but I just want to know if anyone has a ballpark of how much thats going to cost me if I got the 3Gs in june of 09 and started a new contract.

Thanks guys!

Early upgrade price is normally $200 above fully subsidized. Given previous prices the entry level new iPhone would be $399 for early upgrade. Good luck.

I went back and found my bank statements from last year, so this has a bit of history behind it.

bought 16gb 3g on launch date in '08 fully subsidized. Signed 2-yr.
bought 32gb 3gs on launch date in '09 at a "discounted" subsidy. Signed new 2-yr.

I spent $540 (includes tax) on the 3gs last year which means it was $499. I assume I'll spend that much again this year for the top-end model, unless of course they intro a third model.

Some say 199/299 full sub
299/399 early upgrade
499/599 no subsidity

Pretty sure its:

199/299
399/499
599/699

@OP It depends on whether or not you're upgrade eligible. Check your account to see if you can get a full or partial upgrade.

No way I will be paying 599/699. Thought about it and it really isn't worth it to me
