I posted another thread about buying SATA drives with a PCI Controller to add to my G4... but now I'm wondering about adding those drives to a G5.
I'll upgrade to a G5 next year, and I'll want a way to add more than two internal drives. The only problem I see is that the Swiftdata and G5Jam solutions include the PCI SATA controller, which I will already have, and they seem ridiculously expensive for just a PCI card and a few cables.
Both units are about $400 for the unit that holds the extra drives, the SATA cables, and the SATA card... but is there any way to buy only the unit that secures the extra drive in place if I already have the extra hard drives and controller/cables?
I would love to buy the SATA drives now and be able to add them to a G5 without too much extra money, but it seems ridiculous to spend $400 just to be able to use drives you already have, when that money could instead go towards a big external hard drive.
Any ideas or better solutions?
Thanks!
