Sound is not matching my iMovie!

however, I found out that the problem didn't necesarily resided in iDVD, but every time I import my finished iMovie, to either iDVD, a DV cam or anything else, the sound gets delayed progressively. At the end of a 7 minute movie it get's really nasty. I even took my Powermac G4 Dual 1.42, OX Panther to the Aple store and the "geniouses" told me: "You are one guy with very bad luck, since you are the only one with a problem that we cannot solve." Please Help! :confused:

I used to have problems with sound not matching my video in my iMovies, however, it was never that bad. There are many programs out there that you can use to clean up the mess. Alas, I don't know what they are because I don't use them. But you might be able to find them if you look in some other threads about iMovie. What I have done is to make sure that I shoot my video in 16bit sound and once I switched to doing that, I have not had any problems. That is all I have.

16 bit audio has worked for everyone I know. For some reason the 12 bit just loses sync. There is some reason behind it, but the explanation currently has escaped me.

I was finding this problem too, and if you look on the apple support discussions it happens to lot's of folk, so go back and slap that apple genius!

The solution for me was to extract the audio from the video in imovie (menu Advanced-Extract Audio). It was that simple. Then when I exported the movie everything was in sync.

Give that a try, it certainly worked for me.

If none of that helps, it's possible that your camera's set at non-drop-frame (30 fps). iMovie and a lot of other editing programs "like" drop-frame (29.97 fps) source footage better.

One possible reason is Apple designed iMovie and iDVD to work with 16bit/48KHz audio, and not 12bit/32KHz. It's sort of arbitrary and almost a circular explanation... which leads to another possibility: QuickTime's DV codec is designed for 16bit/48KHz, which determines everything else ... as iMovie, Final Cut Express and iDVD are strictly DV tools.
