17" apple monitor advice!

Is four hundred bucks for a 17" flat panel apple monitor, used of course, a good price? me thinks so... so long as it works...


question, will this work for mirrored displays off a g4 ibook bought new last may?

and does anyone have any experience using this hack:

$400 is a fair price for a used 17" Apple LCD.

however, for your purposes it's not worth it.

to get it to work with your G4 iBook you'll need to spend another $300 on this (http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1301), the Gefen VGA to ADC Conversion Box.

spend the money on a nice brand new 19" 1280x1024 LCD. you can find those for around $400.

is there not an easier way to hook up a DVI or ADC to an iBook? that 399 converter is way too much and all your doing is limiting the performance of your monitor.

... guess this is why i got the PowerBook.

Maybe 19" is pushing it, but without doubt you can get a nice NEW 17" LCD with probably dual inputs (DVI & VGA).

really? a 17" analog Samsung is all i could find for $400 that was worth anything. I've been looking for LCDs and under $5-600 everything is crap.

anyone know quality LCDs on the cheap?


I think i will settle on a super cheap 14-15" analog LCD for my public system at home... just need a head. i thought of getting a switch, but that and a new video card for a G3 is more than a cheap LCD and i don't need to be near the other computer to use a separate monitor.

doesn't really help whyrichard though.

If you're interested in a cheap monitor and don't demand the Apple brand, watch some of the websites that keep tabs on these things. With all of the online coupons, you can get some great deals on current hardware ...

the point is bigger pixels allow you to sit a little further away from the screen and still read it comfortably.

it's nice to sit at a recliner, or at least a reclining executive chair, while working.

actually, you just need the mini vga to vga adapter that came with your ibook, since that monitor also has analog input. btw, you can't use that adapter to convert vga to dvi for use in a digital monitor since dvi is a digital signal and vga is analog. that's for using a vga monitor on a dvi port
