View Full Version : Identify this font

Post here if you would like forum members to help identify a typeface. See also the Identifying Fonts Mac Guide, a resource list that community members can help maintain.

Remember that fonts are software so don't request or offer to share copies of copyrighted material or link to bootleg copies. Whether a font is available for purchase, available as shareware or donationware, or is in the public domain, a link to the site that offers it will suffice.

If you use the IMG or TIMG tag to show an image from another site, check if the image displays properly in the post. Some images are blocked from display outside their own site.

Thank you!

FYI, I use this site to find odd fonts and it works really well.
http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

You upload or link to a sample image, select characters and it will bring-up exact or close matches.

One of the Antique Olive family. I've lost track of all the variants, there are so many, but you could probably start with Antique Olive Nord Italic and tweak the horizontal scale down a touch and the tracking up, and you'd end up with something as close to that sample as makes no odds.

Cheers!

You can use this site for automatic font recognition, it's fairly accurate as I have used it a couple of times.

www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont

just upload an image of the font and voilà~

by the way, does anyone know where I can get this: It's called Welcome, and it was used in the Germany 2006 FIFA world cup.
The difficult part is that it's not even for sale, and only the FIFA organisers and related (ie. Yahoo) have it. Do you, or anyone you know has it... especially since the FIFA is finished over a year...

Correction: it's Antique Olive Compressed Italic with the tracking up a touch.

There are a number of shareware/freeware fonts that look enough like Antique Olive to get away with if you don't want to shell out for the proper font, but their names elude me at present ... sorry!

Many fonts can be identified here:

Just upload your example and it lists the most probable matching fonts.

If you still don't have a match you can then still ask someone.

Garamond italic!

Garamond matches pretty well. I don't think Century does though. It isn't curly enough for some letters (eg lowercase f or u). Georgia and Hoefler are close (I think). Does knowing that these drawings were done around 1858 help at all? Obviously, there were fewer available fonts then.

Hey! You're welcome. Many times in logo design, type gets manipulated (bastardized) I also think it is skewed & condensed quite a bit too.

The o, r, a, n, m are almost certainly Chalet New York 1970 by House Industries (http://www.houseind.com/index.php?page=fontsbystyle&s=12).

The i probably is as well, but they've modified the dot.

The g is quite possibly from another font, it is equally possible that is bespoke created for the logo. I do not know.

The s looks familiar, but I can't think of the font off the top of my head, obviously whoever designed that logo wasn't paying enough attention to the fact that the s is infact of a entirely different character weight.

However I digress, a free font called Amalgamation can be readily obtained on the web, and I do believe that the s is reasonably similar, though may require subtle modification in Illustrator.

Stone Sans in one of its bold varieties, beyond any doubt.

I think it's Stone Sans Semibold, but with a stroke added in a package like Illustrator that's the same colour as the fill, to create a weight that's somewhere between Semibold and proper Bold.

However, it's a big family and I may not have every variant installed, so there may be an 'off the shelf' weight that matches this.

Cheers!

The one I provided an example of is certainly not Gill Sans. I had to use Gill Sans as a corporate font for the best part of five years and know it inside out. Whether that's a good thing or not is entirely another question. :D

My other guess would be Avant Garde Md BT or Furtura Md BT for the Heroes logo.

I suspect that it's been tweaked a fair bit... look at the differences between the various A's for one thing.

It's very similar to CG Busorama (http://www.identifont.com/show?3CE) though, and the dates tally – the typeface is from 1970, the film poster from 1971.

Word, I'm afraid, does not display fonts in their best light, particularly if you're using it on a Windows machine. Fire up a DTP app like Quark or InDesign (one of which was most certainly used to set the type in your sample) and you'll see that the body text is most definitely Times.

Unless -- I've just thought -- you're talking about the font used for the headings, which isn't Times ...

Schneidler Initials (http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/grouptype/schneidler-initials/) isn't quite it, but it has some of the flavour

any ideas?Hmm... it looks a bit like the Cyclo (http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/cubo/cyclo/bold-regular/charmap.html) family, although there are some key differences (most noticeably on the 'r', and the fact that Cyclo has rounded ends while your sample does not).

It's not a million miles away, mind – it could maybe have been tweaked a bit from the original typeface.

It's a bespoke font commissioned by the Premier League for their exclusive use – as such, it's not generally available to the public I'm afraid.

You may be able to find a copycat version, although I couldn't tell you where to look besides having a good Google around (which I suspect you've probably already done).

This should be moved to the Design and Graphics forum - there's even a whole (sticky) thread "Identify this font".

In the meantime, you may want to chek this out: http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

True this is in the wrong place, but for simplicity I will tell you that the font in question is Rosewood Standard by Adobe (came in the Adobe Wood Type collection in the old days anyways).

It had this font and a "fill" variation to put a color behind it as well.

EDIT: Whoops-- a couple of seconds too late!

I've been watching a lot of Countdown with Keith Olbermann these days, for understandable reasons: it's campaign season. And I've gotta say something that's been on my mind for a long, long time:

KO's show has got the flat-out best graphics intro and bumper package I've seen on any show, anywhere. (And it goes great with that Beethoven's Fifth score. :) )

It does leave me wondering, though -- what is that font that Countdown uses? It's really unique. Anyone know where it can be gotten free or cheap?

Yeah, each S is different too. You could do something like this in Illustrator or Photoshop... or even with a black marker on paper and scan it, lightly pencilling in the letters first and tweaking it afterwards on the Mac. :)

With the differences in the lower case "m" and such, I would guess that this one was a handlettered/scanned one- but hope someone else can ID it if not.

Good observation! I also just learned that the branding originates from a sign that is 50 years old so there is a very good chance that this is indeed hand lettering... looks like I will be doing some tracing.

Hey there. I'm a new user, thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I don't think this is a actual font. I think it's modified. I am doing some work for a distributer for the company called EnviroACES. I am wondering if someone can suggest a similar font so I can use it to base the missing characters off of. I redid the ACES part in Illustrator already.

it's just something for the ACES part I need. Not the "American Clean Energy Systems".

Thanks

One that I've been looking for, for a bit.

The 'HYSTER' one. It's the Y that is the defining character.

These come close, but sometimes close isn't good enough:
Empire Builder
Slicker
Another font that comes 'close' with the Y is Robust Bold italic... but the E isn't curved
