I want to upgrade the hard drive on my 13" 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook. I currently have 160 GB and I would like to upgrade to at least a terabyte. This is the first time I am upgrading any part on any computer that I have ever owned, so I am a bit apprehensive about buying a new hard drive. My main fear is that I will buy one that won't work. So what is a good hard drive that would work with my mac?

For starters I don't think they make them 1Tb yet. I think the biggest you can fit into your Macbook is 750Gb. Your basic needs are SATA and a height of 9.5mm/0.4 inches and a length of 2.5 inches.

This drive is the largest one you can get. http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Scorpio-Notebook-WD7500BPVT/dp/B003D18DM0/ref=pd_cp_e_3

This one is one of those newer hybrid drives. Supposed to be really fast. http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Momen...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275870505&sr=1-1

This one is one of the fastest regular drives on the market currently. http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Momen...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275870505&sr=1-2

Any 2.5" S-AT HDD will do, but if you have one of the white MacBooks (pre-Unibody), the maximum height for the HDD has to be 9.5mm, and as of now, there is no 1TB 2.5" HDD with that requirement. 640GB is the maximum capacity for those.

Use MRoogle to find many threads about upgrading your HDD.

I recently upgraded my stock 160 GB HD to 1TB by WD Blue Scorpio. I don't really feel the speed difference going from 5400rpm to 5200rpm.

It does make idling noise constantly if your Macbook isn't using the hard drive as much. I hear it is the power saving feature for the hard drive.

Other than that it has been great...

I really hope it own't die on my anytime time :D

Good luck with your upgrading!!!
