cannot sync ipod touch to itunes

i just got an ipod touch from my friend and tried to sync it to itunes but keep getting a message that says windows needs to install driver software for your apple mobile device (recovery mode) but i dont have the disc to install the software and neither does my friend. is there any way to download it from a site for free?

Apple Mobile Device Support is installed with iTunes. Remove iTunes from your computer and reinstall it.
