I'm going to the Stonebriar Apple store. Has anyone ever camped out there before? I'm not sure if they'll let you in the mall overnight or what, but I figure they won't.

Only iPad owners would know about camping out there if its possible seeing how that is the only big launch to occur since that store opened.

You have to wait outdoors to get in, and go in when the mall opens. Better be fast! But since there are many entrances, the faster you are the later you can get there.

I was talking with a friend and we were thinking along the same lines. You could really just mosey up around five and if you could sprint quickly enough, you could be first. 'Course, you'd be a real dick, but if you didn't care about that... ;)

Wanna race? :D Even though it's close to an hour drive for me, I'd much rather leave at like 5-6AM, get there around 6:30-6:45 and just haul ass rather than camp out starting at midnight at Southlake.

Hah, yeah. As soon as the damned online store gets back up, I'm reserving one, so it doesn't really matter when I get there! But camping out is more fun anyway. And the Stonebriar store is so much cooler than Southlake.

Since the Apple store will be opening 2 hours before the mall actually opens, I doubt it will be like that. They usually have a line at one door and direct them to the store.

I asked Apple first, what to expect. They said the mall opens at 7am but had no idea about where people would queue up outside. I then talked to customer service for the mall. They called security and were told that they would not be allowing lines to form outside. I said "ok, I'll just wait in my car." and they said they would not allow "loitering" and would ask us to leave. Also, security said they would be escorting anyone caught running in the store out of the building. I mentioned that with the Apple store having hundreds if not thousands of people queing up they will need to hire an awful lot of guards. They replied they would have police onsite as well. Soooo, I have no idea what I'll be doing. Probably try hanging out around 5am, see what's up, maybe hit up a starbucks and just keep making my rounds till I see a line queing up and when the numbers looks good, get in line then. I may not be first but I also don't want to be kicked out either. Lol. What are you guy's plans? If enough of us showed up all at once I seriously don't think they could do much?

The mall's doors open to the employees and stuff at five, I think. So we can get in then and mosey around the mall until six. I have to go back up there tomorrow, so I'll see if they know anything else. I have one on reserve, so I'm not too worried. But I'd like to camp out, just for fun. I figure I can go at midnight or so and then stay until they make me leave. There are a few people coming with me, and if we can get other people to come out, they might just leave us alone, like you said earlier.

Thanks Pyth! Yeah, I also have a reservation and was actually able to get it confirmed there at the store. They also assured me that all reservations defnately WILL be held till after close of business. So if I wanted I could come there after I get off work (I have to be at work by 10 or 11 that morning). That is reassuring to hear but I don't have any intention to wait that long! Lol. By the way, just an FYI, I was told the store has 1200 +/- reservations and they "definately" will have all the units for all orders. Very cool!

So I went to the Apple store today (got my iPad LCD fixed!) and asked them about launch day procedure. They said that they really don't know except that the mall is supposed to open at 7:00 for customers. The guy told me to get in touch to mall security and I called them and left a message for the guy in charge of security. Hopefully he'll give me a call back tomorrow or Monday so I'll know for sure what we can do. I do know that there is a set of doors that opens for employees at five, so if I can find out which doors those are, we might be able to go in early.

I live in Denton, so this is now the closest store to me. I had originally planned on having one shipped, but that fell through on pre-order day...

I will continue to check back to see what great tips you guys have to offer!

Yeah, the lowest level entrance right next to Barnes is probably the closest. Unless you can go through the entrance to The Ice, which is almost directly in front of the store.

I've been to 2 launches at the willow bend mall and both times there was a line outside the main entrance and then the mall security escorted 10 or 15 people at a time into the mall to the actual line inside. I would imagine this same thing will happen here at stonebriar. There's no way that they won't allow lines at all. That would just be ridiculous!

I "camped" out at stonebriar as best as they would let me for the 3G iPad launch and was first in line. I went the day before and tried everything but they wouldn't let me stay so I cam a 6:30am got in at 7:10am as soon as the guard opened the doors and ran down and waited in line. Apple people were really nice but the mall doesn't allow camping.

I just called and they said they are starting a line at the main entrance (Where the cheesecake factory is at 5am. They said you could get their earlier but you specifically can not camp out but you can wait in line early. Anyone want to join me? I am thinking of going about 2 or 3am.

Has anyone heard about inventory numbers for walkins at Frisco? or any store in DFW? I am curious. I did hear Apple Stores will be getting the most for walk-ins. I heard places like Best Buy, Radio Shack and AT&T would be getting really low numbers. Like less than 5. With all the pre-order demand, I am wondering how numbers are gonna turn out.

See.. I am thinking that only a few people are going to be able to walk-in per store. Considering Apple has already sold 600,000 in pre-order, I just dont think there is much left for walk-ins right now. I wouldn't be surprised if even Apple stores got less than 10.

Stopped by the Stonebriar store last night, at around 7:00 PM, and got some (hopefully accurate) clues as to how many non-reserved iPhones we might be looking at from one of their Geniuses who worked the iPad launch. He noted that they had 100 non-reserved iPads for that launch, and was quick to point out that they were "drastically underestimating" the demand of the iPad, based on what was perceived as a low number of reserved iPads (they had around 150 iPads on reserve at the "morning of" launch). He also said that based on the fact that they have 1000 reserved iPhones ready for Thursday morning, we would probably be looking at closer to 250-300 iPhones that ARE NOT reserved. This is pure conjecture, of course, but he was quick to remind me that Apple is acutely aware of the impending demand of the iPhone, and their supply chain management is "prepared."

It is important to note that the GM (referenced above) is probably the most "in-the-know" here, but I figured that even a ballpark figure of 250-300 iPhones is something to look forward to. As such, I too will be circling the parking lot early-morning, waiting to pounce the main entrance.

....and I'm spent. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Yeah, I called and there was 6 in front of me. Getting through the 6 was easy but then the phone just rang and rang. Finally after a bit someone finally picked up. I expected them to be grumpy but they were actually quite nice! I called at about 6:30p and finally talked to someone at 7:10p. It wasn't bad though. I just put my iPhone speaker on and kept reading my blogs in the browser as I waited. Also, I was assured that all reservations will be filled. They knew that people were concerned about their reservations not being honored so they were wanting to put everyone's mind at ease about it.

I was told by security that under no circumstances would they be allowing anyone to camp. However, having said that, I plan on heading down about 2am or so I guess. I have a reservation so I'm not concerned about not getting a phone as much as getting provisioned in time to make it to work by 9am. If you show up and they kick ya out I would suggest drinking the coffee ya brought and just circle for awhile till you see a line forming. I'm sure there'll be a lot of other people showing up constantly so security will get tired of kicking people out eventually I would think. Lol

Speaking of having to be at work, I have to leave by 8 at the latest (I need to be in Argyle by 8:45). What are the chances of me being able to get out in an hour? If I need to I can call someone and ask them to cover for me, but I don't want to do that unless I "have" to (in quotes because I don't "have" to get the iPhone that morning...).

My family subscribes to the family plan. Unfortunately, my number is not eligible for an upgrade until February. I made a deal with my mother, and she agreed to trade upgrades since she is eligible now. (She could care less about this stuff as long as her Facebook works. And she is upgrading her old 2G to my 3GS :) ) I called AT&T and asked if we were allowed to use upgrades from different numbers. The guy told me that was fine, and people do that often. My concern is that I am not the primary account holder. I could totally see them saying, "You have to be the primary account holder or own the number you are upgrading to get the discounted price." Has anybody heard anything about this? I couldn't get a hold of anyone at the Apple Store to ask. I guess I could bring a copy of their photo IDs and maybe a written letter giving permission?

I've had this concern before, and it shouldn't be a problem if you take the necessary steps beforehand.

Log on to your wireless account on www.att.com (using the log-in / password of the account owner), then click the "My Profile" link. At the bottom of the Profile page, there is a section entitled "Authorized Users - Retail Store." I was just at the Apple Store in Stonebriar getting my iPhone 3GS replaced. I casually asked my Genius about the launch for tomorrow. I tried to get an insight on inventory numbers. He said they are expecting anywhere from 2500 - 3000 people tomorrow. He said there will most likely be two lines: one for pre orders and one for walk-ins. Pre-Orders will go first until 6 PM. At 6 PM if there is any inventory leftover, the walkins will be allowed to buy. Based on that, he said it would be unlikely to have any for walkins and wouldn't recommend coming in if you haven't preordered.

That's just what he told me. I am relaying it to you guys. Take it for what it's worth. But I think that convinced me to hold off until later.

Last Movies during the week start no later then 10:30 so it should be cleared out no later then 12:30.

If you have pre-ordered or made a reservation to a certain store those orders will be filled first. That is how Apple allocated inventory to each store. So unless you are not in one of those two or if you are their is no sense in getting there early. Walk-ins won't be filled until pre-orders and reservations have been filled. That is what the told me at the Knox and Northpark stores.

Theres 2 lines right now. One upstairs and one downstairs. Downstairs has about 40-50 peeps in it and upstairs has about or 15 we're guessing. All that the guards seem to care about is that the line is single file otherwise they seem essentially clueless. All they say is to keep the lines single file and a new line will form in front of Apple at 5am. People keep trickling in.

Sounds like you had the right idea after all! I was three sheets to the wind when they moved everybody to their cars so now I'm wide awake too! Think I'll watch one of the movies I rented. Guess I won't have to worry about running out of battery now. Lol

I am upstairs, about 50 people in line, haven't been downstairs...

Someone just went downstairs and she reports "about the same". Looking for the upstairs/downstairs brawl!

BTW, thanks to the guy next to me who is letting me get tethered connection from his jailbroken 3GS!

Welp, here we are again. Only this time, instead of being 28th or so in line, I think I have about 40 people in front (about 18-20 behind me). Hopefully only about 10 of those actually have reservations which means I should be ok to get back home for a shower before I head back to work. Woohoo! Only half an hour before I get to stand in the next 2 hour line!

Jun 24, 2010, 04:42 AM
The problem with that list is that they left quite a few names off of it, namely, mine! I noticed that it looked like the majority of names she listed don't have reservations so I'll live. Plus, they seemed like good people so i dont mind much. I know because i was right behind her buddies in the original line and they told me. Lol.

You are most welcome. This year's iphone release logistics have totally been a moving target!!! Even the mall security were utterly clueless! I'm astounded at how little planning they put into this. However, when its all said and done you can be sure they'll be in their offices calling careflight cuz they broke there arms patting themselves on the back for how well they "controlled the crowds"! I'm just glad they aren't responsible for building the iPhone! Anyway, its 15 mins to launch in CST zone. The reservation line is so long now I just don't have the energy to count 'em. In the earlier post it was mentioned that apple was expecting to provision 900-1000. I'm willing to bet they all showed up! No idea about the walk-in line but I will say I hope I can get outta here before the people that can't get provisioned for one reason or another blow up and their heads pop off!

It will depend. I can only go by how they handled it at Willow Bend. From walking in the store to walking out with nothing but the iPhone took me less than 10 minutes (more about 7). If you want accessories, of course it may take longer to wade through that.

Sorry everybody. I got my phone but didn't activate it there. I elected to bring it home to complete the process. I was in such a hurry to get outta there. First, I don't know what to suggest regarding coming in more towards noon. My guess is that you'll be ok but don't quote me on that. There were masses of people there! The first batch of 50 went through and then they let the next batch of 50 in about 15 minutes later. I was at the counter at about 7:15 and out the door about 15 mins later with my wife and my iPhone paid for. I think it took about 7 minutes for me to complete my process. I got home about 8:00 and my phone activated and restored (from previous iphone image) all in about 20-30 minutes. Final words-this thing was totally worth the trouble!!! And for the record, I'm not having any screen issues or signal issues. Everything is working clean and crisp and I'd do it all again for this jewel!!! I don't even mind being half wiped for work! Oh ****! I gotta get to work! Later everybody! Good luck on getting yours! I'll post more later if there's any further comments I might have about last night or this beautiful solid piece of art! Blows the 3GS outta the water in my opinion!

Did you just pick up a pre order? Or did you buy a walk in?

gmikesell
Jun 24, 2010, 10:04 AM
The only people they were letting in were those with reservations. Oh, I forgot to mention, they were letting 1 walk-in per 50 reserves. Thus, when I was referencing purchases, it was in regard to this with reservations. Is there anyone that can speak of any further updates regarding current supply, speed of the line? Upset people that couldn't make a purchase, etc? Oh yeah, another update regarding my new phone. I have noticed the signal loss issue if you touch the bottom metal trip. Gonna get a bumper or some kind of case asap post haste! I tried an old case to see if that helped and it pretty much resolved the issue entirely.

Yea, went by there a few minutes ago and people that I saw walk in this morning were barely at the beginning of the reserve line! And the line is STILL FREAKING LONG!!!

So the best bet would be to show up near closing time, I'd say 7-8pm tonight. :-(

At 6:50 (just before the doors opened) it was wrapped around Dillars, and I counted over 300 in that line. By 7:45, after 150+ people from that line had gone through (but only THREE people from our line), someone else counted 290 people in that line. By 8:30 (after another 150 had gone though) it was down to 275... clearly the line was adding just as many people as they were letting thorough...

Sorry, but how is it Apple's fault you didn't reserve a phone? You knew that it would be crazy busy. They give preference to the people who took the time to reserve.

Ok, finally got the phone in hand. I went at 7:40 am today and walked in with a husband and wife...and when I saw the "reserved" line was from the apple store to dillards I quickly walked out and went to work.

Then I went back at 11:30 and the line was still very long (about 1/2 or 1/3) and the people that I walked in with that morning were literally next up in the reserve line.

So then I returned at 3:15 and there was no wait at all...the guys were all very friendly. I was out of the store with an activated phone in about 3-4 minutes.

simply amazing.

Yea, absolutely no "walk-in" phones available. But you can walk up and get your name on an email list that will notify you when a new shipment arrives.

I heard the guy saying that they expect a shipment next week on wednesday...but it's a first-come first-served basis.

The whole waiting process the night before was terrible. No one knew what was allowed and what wasn't. Not even within the mall's security department. I got to the mall at 10:00 pm and was at the front of (one of the two) lines. Because the mall cops decided at 2:00 am that we couldn't camp out and then that they wouldn't keep the two lines in order when we moved inside, I ended up behind thirty people who got there at 5:00. I got my phone, so it's really a moot point, but Apple Corporate really needs to talk to the mall's security department next time so that order is kept.

In other news, I'm terribly happy with the iPhone 4! This retina display is truly phenomenal!

Arrived in the Frisco store at 5am waiting in the walk-in line (would've reserved if I could log on the site several days ago). Sadly, we were initially told "Everyone in this line is definitely getting an iPhone" followed by "We're still unsure how many we have", finally ending with "We're all out".

Would've been nice to know a bit earlier than 10:30am. Still, I hope to see if there's any extras tomorrow morning that weren't picked up :)

It is Apple's (and AT&T's) fault we didn't reserve one because their servers crashed the day preorders were open. I tried about 20 times (both at 4 AM and later in the day) to have one shipped, and they failed us then, and Apple failed us again today. (I didn't reserve one because I figured they would eventually let me have one shipped.)

I am in agreement with others, this location was very unorganized, they need to work on how they process things.

I was the last one there today (technically yesterday now) and they were willing to sell me a 32GB (was there earlier today and decided to just come back when they were ready to close). Saw several employees move around at least 5-10 iPhone boxes (they seemed stacked near the back of the front counter), so I'm guessing 32gig models are what's left. Don't know 100%, however.
