Mail getting stuck in Outbox??

I use the stock apple mail program and I've never had a problem before but suddenly my mail is not leaving my outbox. I can't send emails for some reason. Does anyone know what could be wrong setting wise?

that was my first thought but i just wanted to make sure some setting didn't get changed. hopefully it's just temporary.
