Im running a late 06 Macbook and i am just wondering if this would fit? Also, is this a better option than an SSD for someone who cannot afford one?

Well the XT is faster then 10k rpm WD raptors. So they are fast, not ssd levels. But quite faster then your regular 5400/7200 rpm HDD's.

To answer your questions of its a better option. Well you say you cant afford a SSD, so that means SSD is out of the question, and not really and option?

Therefor you should go for the XT.
