I'm having this issue with my 24" iMac, with an 8800GS, and a s.8 ghz Intel Core2Duo.

The first time the graphics card went out was late April. Bought a replacement part out of warranty. The card died again, accompanied by artifacts, failures to boot into the OS, etc about 2 weeks ago. Again it was replaced, this time by the part warranty. Last night the card died yet again! 3rd times the charm? Hopefully, even though I am out of my initial one year warranty, Apple will replace my computer. It's quite frustrating.

Any advice or info?

I would demand a replacement. I recall reading a thread a little while ago about somebody having problems with their 24"imac. After three failed repairs, he was eventually able to get a base spec 27" imac out of it. I would go for that. I would link you to the thread, but I cannot find it. Use mroogle.

I'm having the same issues, although the periods between them dying has been a bit longer (roughly 1 month this last time).

I'm trying to figure out how best to proceed.
Since it's out of warranty but obviously defective, I'm unsure how to proceed without being told "too bad, your on your own!"

Update:

I talked to Apple this morning, and the senior supervisor told me that if you have a computer that is repaired, then fails multiple times in the same fashion, that the repaid is covered under a 90 day warranty. Basically, they will replace the logic board and/or any other part that is actually causing the issue at no cost to me. If it has the problem after replacing these parts, the guy said they would consider replacing the computer entirely.
