I think technology is a wonderful thing in sports and any human endeavour which isn't strictly necessary. Look at what we have from the numerous Space Programs or even Formula One.

I do really want an NFL version of the MLB at bat app when the season starts though. Being English sucks sometimes....

I want an NFL Network app. Complete with exhibition games and live shows.

That would be awesome but as long as DirecTV and cable cos keeps paying the NFL ungodly sums that will never happen. In fact, DirecTV is charging $50 this year for its NFL Sunday Ticket app... that is on top of the $300 you have to pay for TV access. A far cry from the $115 MLB charges for MLBTV + the iPad app.

If there was an iPad specific app, I may consider the NFL Package this year.

I too have heard all of the stories about the cable companies and Direct TV making it impossible for the NFL to offer an app like the MLB does.

However, I just did a google search and found an interesting article, written today.

This article states that there is an upcoming Droid app that does allow you to watch the games. Plus, there's this article:

If the Verizon article is indeed true, there is no hope for an NFL app for our iDevices in the 2010-11 season. That is disappointing to say the least.

Hmm, I didn't know that. I've been a Verizon customer for years and years. In fact I just order a new phone the other day, the Incredible, but I didnt see it on that list. Maybe now since the article was back in April.

Here's what you're looking for. The HTC Droid Incredible is one of the compatible devices. This is the worst news I've discovered today. I HATE exclusivity agreements!

It's a lot more convenient to be an NFL fan overseas than in the States IMO. Whatever exclusivity deals FOX, CBS, NBC, and ESPN have only allows you to watch a maximum of 6 games per week (2 at 1 pm, 2 at 4 pm, sunday night, and monday night)- and you're still limited to certain games depending on what regional market you're in for the early games. If you live outside the States (and select territories) and buy NFL's GamePass package you can watch whatever game you want live streaming in HD (although I doubt it works on the iPad).

I agree. Verizon usually gets left out so I'm glad this time.

Interesting. I wonder if the Droid app is live and includes Sunday day games. The Verizon app only mentions the Thurs and Sun night games and Red Zone, although I'd take an RZ app if it was the same $15 as the MLB app.

Yes! I can just see Peyton now...reviewing the real time replay of the interception he just threw (no love lost for Peyton).

And then I realized they'd have trouble with wifi connecting, period, but also in a packed stadium with thousands of other wifi devices. And the other option would be syncing videos through iTunes, and I'm not sure how easy or instantaneous that would be on the sideline. All in all, the NFL is usually up on technology and god knows they have the $$ to make it happen, but after thinking about the iPad's known issues and limitations I question the immediacy of it's implementation. I'm all for what possibilities that iPad brings, but it might take some time (or revisions) before we see it used successfully in the sports world. Now for athlete personal use, definitely. They'll own five a piece.

The NFL season has started and there is an iPad app to listen to NFL games. I use Game Pass to listen my favorite teams. The problem is low bandwidth here in our town. The ultimate watching would be on an iPad anywhere. I think the internet bandwidth would have to be much larger. I think the NFL will slowly move in that direction. I would pay for that streaming if is was live and not delayed much. I think there is room for DirectTV, internet NFL and fans in the stadiums. The future look great.

Probably doesn't interest many of you, but I was just imagining pro sports teams adopting the iPad. They could serve multiple purposes for any team. Things that come to mind are digital playbooks and scouting reports. Players could also watch film of upcoming opponents anywhere on the go. With technology today being so advanced, players could watch how they did in practice to get a beat on what they are doing wrong before the coach tells them in meetings the next day. The experience could possibly be interactive in some ways maybe. The future of this gadget is brighter than a gold diggers engagement ring.
