I forsee the same issue with the Bumper as the "official" iPad case

From the looks of it, it will cover up just the edge seams on the front and back, which seems like the right approach - however with my "official" iPad case it is a similar setup and the issue is that under that small area of coverage it is a dirt magnet and constantly needs cleaning out.
 
99.999% of all cases are dirt magnets. When you create a space against a surface it's bound to collect dirt, dust and boogers.

Funny, my first thought was it was like taking the cushions off the couch looking under there. 😀
