I need as many gigahertz as possible. More than 2 cores is not useful for me.

Um, ok. What are we talking about again?

Ok, that's cool.

Well, there is Turbo Boost and Turbo CORE, but even at minimum cores, the i5-680 is clocked quite higher.

It's still very little.

I'm still not sure what you're getting at other than just venting in a new thread.

OK, the i7-980X does not lag far behind the i5-680 at max turbo.

But we need optical CPUs or something.

Who's "we" ? Would an optical computer make your music play better?

Am I the only one lost here? The responses don't align with the questions.

The questions are being outright ignored.

I thought this sorta stuff only came from newbies

The only questions I see in this thread are from belvdr.

No you're not the only one lost, I have no idea what this thread is about.

Happy?

Don't forget your questions:

Yeah, I'm happy. This stuff certainly doesn't make me sad or upset. :)

I might like to point out clock speed is not everything.

if you want proof of this to days iCores clock speed even with turbo boost is slower than of the hi end P4 from 6-7 years ago. Now tell me which chip is faster.

or you can go back to those days I had a 2GZ Athon 64 3000+ chip in my computer that was beating the pants off of a 3.3-3.5Ghz P4 chip. We are talking over 1Ghz speed difference for chips made at the same time and yet my chip would bet it on every test.

Proof to show you that Clock speed is not everything.

I know that clock is not everything. I meant even with the best architecture, HUGE clock speed is needed for some single threaded applications.

After a couple of process generations, we are still stuck at the same clock level. The power problem becomes harder with smaller geometry. A radically new technology is needed.

Mac pro top end quad has a 3.33. Other than that, get a pc and overclock it

Update your apps then. Most apps which are CPU intensive support multiple threads. Clock speeds are history, cores and threads are today.

Radically new technology doesn't just drop from the sky, it needs to be developed and it isn't done overnight.

"Update your apps". As if it were that easy.
