Well like many many many people, I could not get a pre-order through yesterday so I will be heading out to the Millenia Mall apple store dark and early on the 24th with no reservation.

I haven't ever done a launch day before. Does anyone thats experienced a launch at this location before have any advice? How early would you recommend getting there? Are we allowed to bring fold up chairs?

Thanks, and look forward to seeing you all there.

I'm going to millenia, I have a reservation, but with all the crazyness I don't know if that guaranties me anything. My reservation was probably lost or something. They don't ask for a credit card or anything.

I got a reservation for Millenia, this will be my first launch day (bought the first iPhone a week after launch) so I thought it would be exciting to go to an Apple store for an iPhone launch. If anyone knows or finds out what time the mall will open, what entrances, etc. let us know.

I've been working at Millenia for around 2 years..the stores open at 10am Mon-Sat, but people are always allowed in (usually doing morning jogs, or clueless tourists) earlier, my guess is gonna be that the Apple store will open around 7am or 8am, and people will be allowed to wait inside the mall before it opens (who wants to wait in 80+ degrees and 100% humidity for hours anyways?). Security is very friendly. I'm going into work tomorrow (Abercrombie Kids) and I'm gonna stop by the Apple store to ask them about the launch and if I have the chance, I'm going to check with a security guard too.

Just fyi, the closest entrances for the Apple store are the upstairs side entrances or "employee lots" next to Macy's. Starbucks and Panera are always open 2-3 hours before the stores so you can get your morning caffeine kick.

Good luck, y'all!

Thanks for the information. My reservation says I can pick up my phone at 7 AM so I assume the store is opening then. Still wondering how early I should get there.

I'll be there. I was able to reserve one via the Apple Store iPhone App. Unfortunately, my email confirmation says it's going to be $699 for the 32GB even though I qualify for the upgrade price at $299.

I'm guessing when I reserved, the AT&T system was down so it wasn't able to look up my upgrade eligibility.

I figure that I'll need my AT&T info to complete the sale at the store (like previous iPhones) and the price will be fixed then.

I have an iPhone 4 on reserve and accoding to both the email and the app store app, this phone will be held for me until the close of business. Therefore I will pick up my iPhone on the way home from work that day.

So, I do have a reservation confirmed (but for the FL Mall store) so I'm not worried about *getting one* - I'm just curious though for anyone local who has been to a launch in the past - will the reservations line outweigh the standby line? I don't mind getting there right at 7am if it means only waiting a half hour to get through the reservations line if it could be longer later in the day.

I'm also pretty impatiently counting down the seconds to get my new phone so I don't think I'll be waiting much later than early morning, hehe, but I'm still interested in hearing what others from around here think from past experience.

If you have a reservation you are absolutely guaranteed to get one on the 24th. Just a question of how long the line will be!

Howdy all,

I did reserve one, but I'm so frigging excited, as this is my first launch event, that I'm going to get up around 5. I'd love to get an idea of who else is coming. It'll be fun to meet.

I did stop by the store, and they said there will be two lines. They also said that the time the doors open depends on the mall. Probably 6 or 7.

5 days, 8 hours to go!

However, I was there for the 3G launch. The line starts forming at the Cheesecake Factory side of the mall. Once they open those doors, then they march you down to the Apple store and have the standard "line-maze" to keep you in place!

Good luck with that. When I attempted to purchase my 1st gen. iPhone at the Millenia Mall the security wouldn't even let me park my car in the parking lot until 6AM. Seemed very ridiculous to me, so I ended up just going over to the Florida Mall and had no problems.

Cool, I was wondering if someone'd started a thread for this store. I'm moving here in a month and am down here now getting house stuff settled so I kind of chose this location by default as it's the closest to where I'm staying. I'm so glad people who actually know this mall posted where to go!

I'm probably going to get there in the neighborhood of 5-ish am or so. I was even thinking of going earlier on the off chance that a couple of white iPhones might have shown up by then, but I'm wondering now if that might be a waste of time if there won't be mall access that early. Hmm.

Same here. The 3G launch was ridiculous. We all had to wait in a parking lot across from the mall and when they let everyone into the mall lot, it was like the running of the bulls. But with cars instead of bulls chasing people. Surprised someone didn't go down.

Ha I remember that I was there for that launch after the big sprint to the line I got there like 5th. This time though I couldn't get on the apple site so I eneded up going with aT&T having it shipped to my house. Hopefully they will arrive on the 24th.

Unlike the 3G launch 2 years ago, this year they have reservations as well. There will be 2 lines, one for those with a reservation and one for those without.

I was there 2 years ago for the 3G launch and after waiting 2 hours in line was told I couldn't buy the phone there if I had a company discount on my service, I'd have to either cancel the discount or buy at the AT&T store. I called and cancelled the discount and by the time I got in the store it went through and I had my iPhone.

Is there a reason for this? I too have a corporate discount applied to my rate plan. I can't see how it would affect swapping out for a newer version of the same phone if I'm not touching the plan at all.. ?

It was a problem previously, however I have a corporate discount (FAN account) on my current phone and I had no issues with the pre-order. I assume they have resolved the issues related to FAN accounts.

I lived in Orlando for a few years back in the 80's. I will be coming to the land of big ears for a week starting today. I reserved my iPhone for the Millenia store mainly because I didn't want to end up down by the Florida Mall. Traffic always sucked down there, I can't imagine it got much better with time and Millenia is right off the interstate.

I hope they have 2 lines, one for reservations, one for standbys. I will be there about 6ish, ready to go.

For the 3GS launch...

Mall Security made us park off property until 6am. The line formed outside the main entrance between Brio and P.F. Changs. just before 7am, we were allowed in the mall. Once inside the line broke into (2) separate lines... those with pre-orders and those without. Something like 10 people who pre-ordered were allowed in along with 5 that didn't have pre-orders.

They will have cases and other accessories available.

(For the original iPhone launch the lien formed at 3am at the mall entrance between downstairs near Macy's. They use post signage on all mall entrances stating where the line will form.)

I'm probably going by the store today to make sure my reservation is good to go. I reserved mine via the Apple Store iPhone app when the AT&T system must have been down because my confirmation email says $699 for the 32GB.

I'm definitely eligible for the $299 upgrade and I've confirmed it with AT&T a few times since. I need to make sure the store can check my upgrade eligibility because I'm definitely not willing to pay $699.

I've decided to kepp my reservation at Millenia for the iphone 4. I was wanting to wait for white, but my 3g is cracked and ready to be replaced. Thinking about arriving at 5am. I have work at noon accross town, so hopefully this will be enough time. (Of course I will be useless the rest of the day at work.) My boyfriend also made a reservation, however he later was able to preorder on the 16th. But he is going to go with me so he is going to talk to the apple store and see if he can get it switched. We'll see. If not at least i'll get a new phone this time around.

see you all there!

It does get kinda ugly. In the past, cars are flying past running people. Doesn't seem too smart for the mall to create that kind of hazardous condition. Just let people line up peaceably. AT&T must run that mall.

Favorite part was getting sprinkled while still out on the sidewalk. Lol.

As soon as 6 rolled around it was insane! mad rush for the mall entrance, it looked like a scene out of dawn of the dead with all these hundreds of half asleep zombie looking people bum rushing the entrance (not very safe!). LUCKILY i'm a pretty damn fast runner and got 20th in line. Just got home a bit ago, the line was moving very slow as they were letting about 10 reserves in for every 3 walk ins. They did feed us and give us drinks though!

I'm officially a happy camper. :D

I just switched the news station at the end of the story. She was saying that if you are inside of the mall you will get your phone (I'm assuming reserved) but it was sounding like they think the lines are longer than they have time.

I ended up finally getting into the store at about 12:15 or so. This was the slowest-moving thing I have ever been part of. Holy cow. I don't know if some of it might have been newer users who had a lot of questions they were asking the Apple people who were helping them or what, but I paid attention to some of the people I recognized from line, the times they went into the store and then finally left, and some of them were in there for 35 minutes or more. I so wish there'd been a way for those of us who know what we're doing with our phones to just grab them and go, and activate them at home at our convenience.

I kept seeing Apple people circulating snacks and drinks, but somehow they kept missing our chunk of the line and hitting other parts multiple times. Oh well. I met some pretty cool people and it could have been worse--we could have been out in the heat.

It was an experience, I guess, but next year....no way in hell. The only reason I went the reservation route this time was because I could never get a preorder to go through in 7 hours of trying.

Good Lord, this is crazy. I rolled up to the parking lot at 5:50 and verrrrrrry slowly got in, got to a pretty close spot & parked, and there had to have been 200 people in line already. Finally got let into the mall at a little after 7 and was escorted down near the Cheesecake Factory, & we've moved up about 15 yards since then. Favorite part was getting sprinkled while still out on the sidewalk. Lol.

Was looking at this photo saying "that looks just about where I was in line." Then looked again and saw myself. (Girl in the crops.) I loled.

But yes, good day. Got out of the store at 12:30pm. Enjoyed the free Chick-fil-a lunch and thought Apple did a great job with this launch.

There were a lot of people watching the proceedings from the balconies above the store. I was surprised, but they were there soon after the mall itself opened.

Couple more pics from today.

I like to people watch, and Millenia is often a good place to do it - a different breed of tourists than Florida Mall. If I watched there i'd be close to the food unlike Florida Mall, so that would be a consideration, and the balconies would be cool to watch from! LOL!!

Actually shopping at that store - not on my list at the moment.... i'm having a bad Apple Store experience in the customer service area and it might be take until iPhone 5 before i'd have any desire to buy something.

I enjoyed "watching" from home though, even though i'm not getting an iPhone (this 3G iPad is enough of AT&T for me), it is fun to read about everyones experiences at the stores and the hows and whys of deciding to wait. I just have to wonder what other companies think of the whole thing. Thanks for letting me share it with you guys in Central Florida!

I am planning to go there tomorrow afternoon, but I've found that iphones are sold out in several apple stores.

Any update on the availability at this store? It would be nice if someone who was there in this evening or afternoon can post an article. Was there a line until 9:00 pm.

Thanks.

When I was about 30 people from the front of the reservation line, one of the Apple employees told us that the res line was 4x the size of the walk-in line; they'd been actively dissuading people from attempting walk-in purchases even before we got into the mall at 7 am, so I'm guessing that's the reason for the difference in line size.

Whether they were just blowin' smoke about availability, I don't know. I left the store at about 12:30 this afternoon, so if things continued the way they had been, I'd have to guess that they sold out, but it'd only be a guess. Hopefully someone who was there tonight will have more info for you!

Arrived at 11am checed out at 8:30pm. Reserved two 16 gb. One new line on family plan and one upgrade. Both 199. When I left the line was were I started but with fewer no reservations left I would estimate an 8 hour wait. The store was remaining open until the last reservation was taken care of. Once I was in the store I received super fast and excellent service. They even let me take both phones home shrink wrapped. Lots of snacks and water offered throughout the day. The group around me was supernand supportive throughout the day. A long wait but the phones are amazing. No regrets just tired.

Because so many who had reservations gave up and there were a lot there will be phones if you get there early. When I got in I noticed they were only letting the non reserved buy 32gb. There could be some 16gb this morning. I would be there before they open. Best of luck.

I waited in the walk in line yesterday. I got there at 5am, started waiting in line at 6, and left the store at 5pm. Yes, that's 12 hours at the mall and 11 hours in line. I was so exhausted. I can certainly attest the reserve line was gigantic. It was way bigger than the walk in line.

The employees really deserve a hand. They were all friendly and fun (as well as mall security) and kept us stocked with snacks, food coupons, and drinks all day. Despite the Apple Store being a zoo inside, the employees really kept a great attitude. If I hadn't had a SIM problem, I would have been out in 10-15 minutes. They were fantastic! A big thanks to Mike for being hilarious and making my purchase extremely simple.

Now, the downside to the experience. AT&T. We activated my iPhone, rebooted several times, and had no service. So I was guided over to one of the AT&T reps in the store. I knew it would start going downhill once I saw the disorder and clutter surrounding their Windows laptops. My rep kept trying to punch information into the AT&T site via Internet Explorer. lol Never worked. (Bigger lol) So he resorted to pulling out his POS Samsung phone (Really? They didn't at least give him an iPhone for looks?) and called star command. They went through some gyrations, activated my new SIM and put it in my phone. AND....

It didn't work.

He said they said the local AT&T switch is on about a two delay. He told me to go ahead and leave, if there are any more problems they can be handled via phone support. (Would be nice if I had a functioning phone. lol)

So I headed home and about a half hour later, I looked at my phone and it had full 3G signal. Sweet!

So I tried the reception test to see if I had a problem. Psh, dropped down to three bars. I've tried it twice more since and it only lost one bar (down to four). I'm completely satisfied with its performance. It works and it works great. I absolutely love it! By far, the best iPhone I've had (and I've had all four).

I arrived at he Millenia mall at 9:45am yesterday (launch day) and having reserved it was directed to the reserve line which was all the way down in front of Williams Sanoma - half way across the mall and around the center court. Finally got in the store around 7:45pm and was on the way home by 8:00pm. The people in line were super and we saved each others spots for bathroom and lunch breaks and chatted. Apple was cool by passing out drinks and coupons for free food in the food court or coffee at Starbucks.

When I finally got in the store they were able to get my AT&T account transferred to the new phone i a matter of minutes and they took the time to point out some of the new features in the phone. Despite the line outside the store still being as long as it was when I got there almost 10 hours earlier they never seemed to rush through the process. They took as much time with each customer as was necessary and that was great. I was only inside the store about 10-15 minutes, but there were still people that got in a half an hour before me still in the store going over the features and stuff of their new phones.

The staff in the store was great. Having worked 10 years in retail management I really gotta give them credit.

As for the problem with the signal strength I personally have not experienced anything yet as far as dropped calls. I did see an instance where the strength went down a bar, but inside one of the buildings I work in, to have 4 bars in there instead of the usual 2 or 3 I got with my iPhone 3G, was in my opinion pretty great.

It was a nice experience overall, but also one I hope not to repeat in the near future LOL
