This is my first post here so hi everyone.

I've just come out of my degree and would like to get started on developing apps for the iPhone. Now I already know I can get the SDK and the simulator etc for free and I have done this.

What I am wondering, as a beginner to development for the iPhone, is if the cost of joining the development programme and paying the $99 (or whatever they make you pay in the UK) is worth it and what you actually get. From what I can tell it's releasing apps to the store and testing on actual devices. Are there any other advantages to paying the $99 prior to having anything to release?

Thanks
