Will the Macbook Pro's battery eventually shut down?

Lets say the batterys been use extensively to the point where full charge will only last like an hour. Does it mean in time, the battery will weaken to the point to where you can't even turn on the macbook pro anymore?

I was hoping that since the places I am traveling will have an electrical outlet.. I wouldn't think I would need battery life for over 3 hours.
 
It will still run with the power adapter, even if the battery is not working anymore.

I have an old G4 iBook with over 700 cycles (maybe even 1000+) and it still can hold 20 to 30 minutes on one charge (originally it were three to four hours, if not even more).

The current batteries in Apple's portable computer line are meant to hold 1000 cycles.

My PowerBook is now 5 years old and the battery lasts maybe 5 minutes. It holds a charge but barely. As long as it's plugged in you'll be able to turn it on.
