Hello

can anyone tell me how big the discount on apple hardware is if you have a adc membership?

That depends on what you are buying.
I think most apple machines are about 20%.
ipods and other acessories have less discount

I'm planning on signing up for the student ADC membership now so I can use the discount on a new G5+Cinema Display next year. Is it ok to do this if you don't know anything about programming or developing, but might be interested in toying with it? I'd mainly use the G5 for Video and Photoshop stuff...

Does Apple really care if the computer will be used primarily for OS X development? 😕

im in it and i dont know how to program anything... I had no idea up until this thread that you even get a discount. the discounts are huge!! at least on the pro machines, powerbooks and powermacs. I got my Student ADC for free, that is why i am in it. I may learn how to develop some stuff next semester though... too busy right now.

as far as i know you don'T get a rebate when you just got a student account..... you need the select membership for $500.....
or am i wrong?

Nops, once you are a student account, the ADC subscription costs 99$!!!

BTW, students get a discount already from the Apple Store for education, if you haven't checked this out you are seriously missing out!

yes, there is an education discount, but the ADC discount is significantly more. The edu discount is $300 off a dual 2.5 G5, while the ADC discount is $600 off.

I'm pretty sure that those enrolled in the Student ADC membership can get the big discount too

Yeah you get the discount, BUT only once-in-your-lifetime..
ADC select members get ONE system a year..

I think you have to study a computer related subject on a university (or similar) to get the ADC student membership.

Boo, the Canadian ADC Select store is the same as the Education store!
