For $250 difference, which one you will buy? I can afford both, but wondering i7 over-heating problem. Both're on the way to me, I need to decide to return one. I usually use lightroom and aperture, not a gamer.

Cheers.

My comment has nothing to do with any overheating issues. I feel the small performance gain from the i7 is in no way worth the extra money over the i5.

define performance gain.....

if your gonna play games and other not so multithreading software i'd go for the i7 because of the increased turbo boost, if your going to be using it for rendering graphics etc, the extra turbo boost wont do you any good as it wont take an as destinct effect when all "4" cores are working

Ok, maybe my comment wasn't the most detailed, and based mainly on benchmarks but I think the gap is just too small. As for gaming, how much better do you think the i7 is against the i5? The extra cost of the i7 would be better spent towards an SSD IMHO.

Agreed. But this is just preference.

Well you could always check one of the 99999 threads about this.

Just get the i5, apparently the i7 only has a 10% increase.

i was surprised to learn the i5 gets better battery life than the i7.

anyone have any additional info. also apples 8-9 battery estimate is that the i5, i7, or both?

The range is because it is for both. For whatever reason the i7 seems to draw more power, presumably because it is faster. I think you are more likely to see the 9 with the i5 and the 8 with the i7...if you can get that high. I have heard that the 10 hour battery claim for the 13" is a bit more accurate though.

I mean maybe i7 can last one more year than i5, and justify the $250 difference? I plan to use it for 4 years, same as my current MBP CD 1.83.

I think I will keep the i7.😀

I've never had much more than 4 or 5 hours at the very most with my i7...I'm not sure what you'd have to be doing to get 8 or 9 hours (or rather, lack of what you'd be doing 🙄).

i5 is fine, I use aperture and FCE without problems, i7 performance not worth the difference, better invest on a SSD...

hmmm, I guess most of you will go for i5.

I know HD is the bottle neck, and will get the seagate 500GB hybrid to replace it. For $250 I might still get the i7.😉

Thanks all.😀

somebody said the i7 overheats, well no, been runing mine for 2 days straight at 100% no problems, keept it at around 90º at 3500rpm
