Dang 'ol mouse. I'll show him. Whoops...sorry babe. :)
A man missed a mouse he was trying to shoot with a small-caliber handgun and wounded his girlfriend instead, state police said.

one may ask after reading this would be; why in the world would you shoot at a mouse?????
the chances of hitting it wouldn't be very good...... What ever happened to the good ol' shoe? ;)

Yes, and my favorite quote:
State police said they won't charge Rugg, but advised against people shooting firearms inside.
Oh really.

I should try this. We have a mouse problem, living in an old house and all. The traps just aren't catching them quick enough!!
edit:just had to complete a thought.

He was very lucky in this situation. I very happy that his girlfriend is OK. Sounds like he is in need of fire arm safety training. Be sure that no human or pet is in the line of fire prior to shooting. :(

I've seen people hunt birds with bows and arrows, and rabbits with 22cal pistols? And have you ever heard of shot guns?? Sure you could hunt a mouse with a gun.

Sheesh, it wasn't like he attacked a mouse with a sword and stabbed his girlfriend, now that would have been ridiculous.

Only in America do we need guns to kill vermin. What next? Man kills several people with assault rifle in attempt to kill rats.

Well, maybe the mouse was armed!:D Good thing it was only a .22, and not a shotgun. Absolutely amazing!

That's right. Because there are no people outside. You could never accidentally shoot your girlfriend outside.
Better advice would be this: if you're too stupid to make sure no one is in your line of fire, sell your gun.

To me it sounds like the last thing he needs is a firearm...period.

That's right, this guy made up the story about a mouse so he wouldn't look stupid for shooting his girlfriend in the arm.
I'd say that was ridiculous, but I suppose anyone dumb enough to shoot a mouse in his house would think that was a reasonable excuse for shooting his girlfriend.

in the construction world ive always heard to solve a problem you "need a bigger hammer"
well in this case i think the same thing applies, he just needs a bigger gun! come on, a 12 gauge shot gun would sertainly get the job done. the spread of the shot would certainly hit a larger area than a .22 caliber hand gun. that means he would be more likely to hit the mouse!
EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS!!! YEEE HAAAWWW!!!
<cough> er sorry, i dont know where that came from. as the NRA would suggest, i would recomend proper gun training and to not discharge a weapon inside a house nor outside a proper range or hunting area.

Seems like every other day there's a story of people's stupidity with guns. Wonder how Charlton Heston and the NRA would comment on this one.

This is why I am against any sort of legalized handguns in the States. Sure, you may be responsible, raised by your daddy to know handgun procedure BLAH BLAH...but when just ONE idiot like this gets his hands on one, and your whole argument goes out the window. And there is a lot more than just ONE idiot like this.

Nobody's smart enough to own a gun. It just isn't worth the risk. Maybe we should just have a combination geographic/IQ test/political gun screening process.
Geographic: No one from Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, or New Jersey is allowed to own a gun.
IQ: Must be at least 140.
Political: Liberals only.
Basically, it's like holding public office--the only people who deserve it are the ones who don't want it.

I kind of think he made it up or is a very bad shot. Seems to me the mouse would be at floor level. If his girlfriend walked in the line of fire, shouldn't she have been hit in the ankle? Either way he's an idiot.

Maybe the girlfriend was the mouse's bodyguard, and she lept in front in slow motion screaming "noooooo!" Well, honey, you told me to get a job.
But seriously, it sounds like a lie to me. Think about the angles. I think he shot her by mistake and she didn't want him to get in trouble so they made up this story together.

I suspect it's crap, too.. but you're the second person who totally failed trigonometry to post this fallacy.
Let's DO think about the angles. Unless you get prone, you are firing downward, at an angle. As any 8th grader could tell you, the length of the base of the right triangle (your distance to the mouse) inversely relates to the angle at the top. So, the closer the girlfriend is to the gun (relative to her distance from the mouse) the higher up on her body the bullet will hit her. To get hit in the ankle, she would have to be standing right next to the mouse.

If the bullet bouced, yes she could have been hit in the arm. Unless they had tile floor, I don't think a .22 would bounce. Even though shooting any gun in the house is dumb, you would think he would at least tell his girl to stay away while he protects her from Mighty Mouse.

Why do I get this image of those remote sentry weapons platforms in the condor in the movie Aliens firing at a mouse in the hall of a house. The numbers run from 1,000 to 0 and all that is standing is the mouse with the house demolished. :D
Can we safely assume that they aren't an item anymore?

So what if he'd have killed her? No witnesses? A chance to get out of murder? I think this is stupid. Mice are harmless anyway and guns are stupid in my view. But that's enough of that - i don't want this to get political :p
I still fail to see the funny side though

hmmm well i dont think that would work. . . it looks like it would take at least two people to fire that. and it doesnt look like the mouse hunter and his gf are not very bright so i doubt they would be able to coordinate an attack on the mouse with one of those! heh. . . where did that picture come from?!!!!
