Itouch not hold ing charging (Advice)

So i have researched through these forums so i am looking for advice.
i have an 8gb 1gen itouch
It doesnt hold charge.
I can use it from the firewire to outlet wire but
if i use USB the itouch is not charging or being recognized by comp. (Wire is not faulty)
In fact when i pull the firewire the itouch loses all power instantly.
SO i think i need to replace the battery. I am wondering if my reasoning is correct?

Also some additional information
I think the reason why the USB doesnt work is because an itouch needs some sort of charge before it can be received by my comp so thats why its not working USB-wise. But what really baffles me is that a charge comes from my pc via firewire line to power up the itouch (Windows Xp cant recognize input) but not the USB.

Can anyone help me?

Sounds like your iPod touches battery or even the pin connecter may be out.

So are you saying the pins connecting the outside port to its internal hardware is broken?

i had this same situation with my zune, but i think the connector port for it was displaced, you should probably take it to an apple store
