problem with epson sp700 and beige g3 with os 9.2.2

hello.

i have a problem with a epson sp 700 printer in combination with a beige running os 9.2.2. the printerdriver has always the same error message that the printer is not properly conected and so on. the printer is connected with the serial printer port. i updated the drivers, repaired the volumes, deleted the epson prefs, but nothing helped. has anyone an idea??
