So, anyone know any details about what time the mall will be allowing people to line up inside.?
This is what I know based on calling the Apple store; they will have 2 lines, one for reserved and one for walk ins and will open @ 7:00 am.
Has anyone been here before with any other launches? Any information on what doors will be open, where everyone will be waiting would be great. I will have on a "Keep it Simple" shirt, come say hello!
See ya all there!

No, it seems the apple stores won't give those details. I'm not sure if I am going to lineup at the towson store or the anapolis store. I live closer to the Towson store, but work near the Annapolis store. I asked the Annapolis store the same thing (what time mall would allow people to line up and where) and they said 7am, which obviously isn't true. Would be nice to know. For the iPad launch I rolled into the Towson mall about 1 hour before opening (they opened at 9) and was about number 30 in line. They also had 2 lines , one for walk INS and one for reorders but they didn't let people from the walk in line purchase one until the pre order line thinned down

Good information, I'm going to go on a advanced scouting run sometime this week. I work pretty close to the mall, so have the time. I'm going to see if I can chat with some of the mall people and the Apple folk. I will let you all know if I find anything out.
BTW, pretty funny name...

I kind of want to get a sense of whether this store is going to be strict about holding reserves only for people that actually got through or if they're kinda going more first come first serve. I also feel bad calling to ask cause I'm sure everyone and their mother is asking similar questions. Do post if you have any more info after your scouting run. I can't go till 1 p.m. on Thursday unfortunately but I did reserve one.
This is my first time at Towson and first time on launch day. :-)

The store does not make the policy, Apple does. When I called last week, they checked my reservation and told me to come in anytime before closing and they will have my phone for me. If you read over on the apple forum, every one has had the same experience. If you have a reservation, you have a phone, don't sweat it! It's that simple really! If you like, I will update this thread with details after I get mine. I have to be at work by 9:30 and plan on getting there around 6:00 - 6:30 and figure to get out before 9:00.

Good info, thanks. I had just read about some other stores that said they would have one long line or that didn't think they would have enough stock. Hard to know exactly what to believe. Good luck!

I'm not worried about stock, if a store had a max of 1000 reserve, they stopped taking reservations when they hit that 1000 and that's what they will get from Apple plus some extra for walk in's.

Hey All,
I called the Towson apple store and they said that they will have the lines but we would need to call the mall to ask about when/where we can line up. So....I called the mall, they said that they will not open the mall doors till 7:00am so everyone will need to lineup outside the mall and they won't be opening till 7:00. How early is everyone getting there on Thursday. I couldn't get my pre order through so I am counting on a first come first serve phone and am planning on getting there early. Hope we can meet up there.

I wonder how the different lines are going to work. Do walk ins not get phones until reservation line is empty? That doesn't make sense to me.

Doesn't make sense to me either. Some of the reserve people won't show up until later, so even if it dies down there's only a certain number of phones for walk ins regardless. Might as well serve them concurrently.
Apple usually does things that make sense, so I would guess that's how it will be, but who knows. Good luck!

I assume that you will be lined up outside in the C4 parking lot entrance. Does mall security care that people will be lined up that early outside? This is my first time coming out for a release at Towson Town. I am excited and will be getting there really early as well.

iManny now that is early!! Do you have a reservation or are you just planning on being a super early walk in? I will have my 3 sons with me, only 1 has a reservation, the others are just coming for the event. This is what I'm planning; 1st, I'm going to take a recon trip tomorrow to check out doors, parking and all. Im going to chat with the Apple folks to see if they have any additional information and i will also go to the mall security office and see if i can get any additional information.
We plan on getting there around 5:30 - 6:00. I will be sending my younger sons around to scout out the area in the morning nails, maybe there is an open door or something?

I have a reservation but im doing it more for the experience and fun , im gonna do some recon as well, i know reservations are locked in place but if you think about it, ive been looking forward to this phone since it was introduced so i want it asap :D A little bit of math 600,000(pre-orders) divided by 50 states is 11,000 a state give or take depending on sized, alot of people are gonna probably go to towson so id rather get there a little early since it is close to a major city besides columbia. All in all meet a few new people share a few apple stories and be one of the first to get my hands on a shinny new toy.
i have no problem with email.

Very nice, same here really. I also did this math that i posted in the apple discussion area, people were getting seriously bent about the whole preorder vs. Reservation and if you reserved if you will get one, even though every Apple person said not to worry. I figured that Apple produced at least 4million units. That's conservative from the web, saying they were producing like 2-3 million per month. Take the 600k add another 600k for reservations, add say 1000 walk ins per store, there are 250 apple stores in the world, so 250k, that's a total of like 1.5 million, plenty left to distribute to the other stores and all.
Very cool, looking forward to seeing you all there.

I'm flying in from WI on Tuesday night and am going to wait at the mall too. My gf has a reservation at Apple, so I'll probably spend a lot of time in that line. But being as I'm poor at the moment, I had no choice to reserve at the RS so that I can take advantage of the trade-in, being as I'm not eligible for upgrade... I'm hoping that since they're in the same mall as the Apple store, they'll at least have 2 (because I'm #2 there)! haha
Anyone know if they are for sure going to have any on launch?

The only thing I have really heard is the Best Buy leak information. They are expecting minimal inventory, but heck if you are #2, if they get any inventory you are good to go.
Have a good trip and see you in line.

When you guys say "reserved" does that mean order one online? what are the chances if i show up at 7am that i get one and get out before 9/10am for work... i can stretch that but is this an all day thing? looking for alittle help here... and also how bad is ATT around baltimore really?

ATT is actually great for me in and around Baltimore.
I think you'll have a bit of a tough time getting a phone by just showing up at 7, but who knows. A) there are going to be people waiting to get in before 7 I would imagine and B) No one really knows how much additional stock they will have after reservations are met. Yes, reserved means that you "ordered" one online on June 15. Unfortunately reservations are closed now, so you'll have to just get there early and hope they have a lot of them. Good luck!

So, I went to the mall today to do a "recon" and this is some good additional information;
Reservations; If your worried about them, don't be. I spoke with 2 different Apple employees and they both said the same exact thing; they have reservations also and they will be waiting in line with the rest of us, after there shifts are over! So, both of the peoples shifts are over at 3:00pm and they were not concerned in the least. They had less then 1000 reserved and will get the complete stock of reservations.
I could not really get a clear answer about if the mall is open and if we will be able to get in. But, I did go down to talk with security and there is no truth at all to what tristate said at all, they actually laughed about that. I'm not sure if thats a scare tactic so no-one shows up, but that ain't going to work.
They were all pretty pumped about it. They also said that they will have a 3rd line after 10:00 am for people with non iPhone issues, which is fair. And all hands on deck to move people as fast as they can.
I will post if I have anymore information, but this is a 2 way street, if you know something, give it up.
I'm hoping Starbucks is open, dang I should of went in and asked.

When I checked the Chicago/Milwaukee boards, people were alright, but some were just... idiots to be honest. I like the idea that people are actually coming here for the experience as well as the phone, instead of just trying to screw everyone else over so they can get theirs first, you know?

Hey thisisapromise; I feel the same as you, funny thing, I was trying to cleanup some of the misinformation over on the Apple boards and some people starting cursing each other out and my post got removed!
We will all get phones, so why not relax and enjoy the event, make some friends and see what others have done with there gear. Currently I have a jb'ed iPhone3 and I'm kind of anxious about not having total control over my apps and what not. So, I can't wait to try out ios4.
One other thing, you asked about stock @ rs, while I was getting some food at towson town I started chatting with a manager from Best Buy, he said they should be getting about 50 units, less then they thought, but if you #2 and rs gets any, your golden.

I think I really would like to shake your hand, my friend! You seem to have just about everything worked out. I've spoken to one specific RS employee multiple times that was extremely nice and worked with me as details emerged and whatnot, but I just felt like I was starting to be a pest, so I backed off on the phone calls lately, out of courtesy. :)
So needless to say, due to your dubious research and social skills, you have officially made my night, and I'm sure I'll have far less stress-headaches from now to Thursday. lol Thank you!

I did the very same thing, my friend! I even waited at Best Buy on the day of the 3G launch so that when people returned their WiFi iPad for a 3G, I'd be able to get $50 off the MSRP for open-box items. hahaha

To those who pre-ordered from Radio Shack, they now stated that only a few select stores will have phones on launch day. The will not specify as to which ones or the quantity that they will receive, as per usual.
But I am hopeful that because of the mall being such a prominent one, along with the presence of an actual Apple store within it, that RS should have at least enough for the preorders.
HOPEFULLY!!!

Well all the day is finally almost here!! I know if your reading this, your as psyched as me.
I don't have any more information except that one of my sons who ordered from best buy got his call and has an appointment for 8:00 am tomorrow morning in the Hunt Valley store. He was number 6 for pre order. The girl he spoke with said she was surprised that they got so many phones, so that's pretty good news for walk ins.
Unless I hear otherwise, I'm still sticking to my plan of about 4-4:30 am, I'm not worried at all about getting my phone, more worried about getting to work sometime in the morning!
Reading most early posts online is pretty positive, with a few odd issues like screen discoloration and potential antenna issues, but i always take that information with a grain of salt.
So I will be calling imanny on my way in to see how it's going, good luck with the 12-4 shift, hope you have no hassles. I will try and post what i know and if anyone else can, that would be great.
Good luck everyone and I hope to say hello to you all tomorrow!! Heck we will need some others to use face time.

Hey - has anyone in line or on this thread reserved? When are people getting there who have reservations? I was just planning on getting there around 6 or 6:30 and I was planning on being one of the first in line... is that not going to be the case?

Does anyone waiting in line have a reservation? I have one reserved and plan on getting there around 6. Hopefully I won't have too long of a wait because the reserve line will go quicker. Anyone else have one reserved? What time are you planning on going?

Annapolis Apple store only had less than 50 phones for walkins. Apparently over 300 people in line. Sold out by 7:30.
I heard one report of the Towson store having 1200 phones - 800 of them for resevations and 400 for walkins...if true, i chose the wrong store to wait at :(

Well, I hope everybody got what they went for and no one walked away unhappy!!!
After reading Dan's email about people lining up at 9:00, I knew I was not going to sleep, so off I went to the mall. much appreciated Dan!
Found everybody up on C4, walked over and the security guard had everyone sitting in there cars. Some very nice person was giving out tickets to people as they came, just to keep order and all.
When that guard went off duty, everyone came out and sat more or less in order. I was number 44. I was sitting with a great guy and his dad who had been following this thread and we had a lot to chat about, Hey Matt!
We then saw another line forming, much shorter, so we found out that line was reserved only, so we moved from in the 40's to about 15 - 20 in line.
Some people who had been resding this again were there, I have no idea what your name was, but a very nice woman joined up with our small group waiting in line for her and her husband!
So around 3 and my times may be way off, I was dozing and all of a sudden there is all kinds of movement and we all rush to the doors. Well it turns out, that if just a small group of people don't agree with the ticket process and line, it just does not work. I have to say it got somewhat scary, no guards, people screaming at each other and a mob. Well, the young lady, myself Matt and his dad just took up our place all the way up front and waited in the steamy hot air. Finally around 5, police and security. Word was we were going to get in soon. 5:30, they open the left door and we all just squeeze and walk realllll fast. Reservations on right, boom number 8 in line and I see all my fellow iphone people right around, we are good. My son was able to wait with me also, so that was great, always enjoy his stories. So we wait and the line grows all the way to Macys and then back, I would say 300 people maybe more. Reservation line was almost as long. Finally, 7, curtains drop and we are in!!! I was in the 2nd batch and got the guy I had been dealing with in the prior weeks, Ahmed you are a kick ass guy!
FInally, after no sleep, countless hours of waiting, "Jack, here is your phone"! So I did order 2, but unfortunately I could not get another line, I have 5 and my wife really wanted the white one anyway. But, after all of it, it was worth it, the machine is beautiful and Fast!!!
So, thanks to all my new friends, hope to see you at the iPhone 5 launch and lets hear how you did!
One more thing, when I was in the back of the store, they had 450 boxes on the counter in back.
They seemed to be very fully stocked and were ensuring that all people with reservations have a phone, but I have to say it took 45 minutes for me to be processed, but I did have some issues. They will activate, then plug into itunes, they only had about 5 machines for that, so that may of slowed up the others.
Please let us know what happened later on.
Regards
Jack

Haven't been following the thread long, but it was an absolute blast to be a part of this! I got to the store at around 5 am, met up with Fz1jp (I usually just call him dad) outside, and waited patiently for my phone. Inside the mall, the Apple people handed out waters to their patient customers. Once in the store, it took me about 10 minutes to get my phone (then another 30 minutes of waiting on this guy for his complicated multi-line transaction attempt!).
Despite going to bed at 1, waking up at 4:15 and being at my desk right now, can't say I'm disappointed in the least. The experience was great and the phone is superior in every way to my old 3g! Such a dork, but I just love technology.
Thanks for the recon and tireless work to make sure we had the best shot at being some of the first in the area to get the phone dad!

Hey Jack! You pretty much summed up the experience. I got my phone and have it activated with me at work now. I'm really happy I finally got my iPhone, but even more so... I enjoyed the company I had while waiting for it. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to wait with. You were all awesome and I hope everyone got their phones. Feel free to PM me any time. I may not post a lot but I'm always reading the boards and I definitely wouldn't mind keeping in touch with you guys.
'till next year!

Waited on the reserve line for about 90 minutes and got both my 32GB iPhones.
They had no cases, but I got the second to last dock.

Waited in line for about 20 minutes and chatted with the pretty girl in front of me, which made the time go quickly. After that, a nice guy came out and shook my hand, and we were on our way! It was up and running in just a few minutes. I stuck around for a bit and tried FaceTime with a buddy who also just bought one up in Boston. It was OK but neither of us could hear each other, as you can imagine.
I have to say that I was disheartened at first because i came up through Macy's and saw that first line and thought it was the reserved one. They had a sign up (it was around 5:00) saying no more customers today. There must have been at least 75 people there, you could feel the body heat ewww
The reserved line only had 20 max, and was great because an off-duty Apple store employee was behind me and also a nice older gentleman and we shot the ***** for a bit too.
Overall it was a hassle-free experience, and i will be pre-ordering to the stores in the future as well.
Pity there were no bumpers, but I expected as much. I didn't see the point in the docks, but there were a couple left when I checked them out.

Hey everyone! I had a blast at the launch waiting with all of you and making fun of the chaos that was the walk-ins. hahahaha
My gf got her phone at like 7:15 and we were out of there before 7:40.
From there, we drove all the way to the Radio Shack Mondawmin Mall where there were two people lined up in front of me. The store actually only had 7 phones, total! But as a few of you know, I happened to brick my 3GS upon restoring it the night of the launch, but I got it to AT LEAST show the connect to iTunes screen, which was passable as working in the eyes of Radio Shack standards and I got my $200 trade-in value for it! lol
So all in all, 2 phones at 2 different stores = A COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!
And for the record, RS has one black case (not bumper; an actual silicone case) for like $20.
See you guys next year and don't be strangers! I'm always around.:p:apple:

Thanks for that update, between the bricked phone and the unknown pickup from the shack, I was wondering if you were able to get all you wanted.
Did DBriggs get a phone? Dan if your still out there, were you able to get a phone?
I know the meetup part of this thread is dead, but I was also wondering how everyone likes there phone and if you having any of the reception issues I have been hearing of.
I don't have any issues, but being I'm so paranoid I have a zagg on front and back and I have a black bumper on it also. I kept my 3G "clothed" also and when I gave it to my son this weekend, it was in great condition, especially the screen. I also bought a squaretrade accedential breakage warrenty. I usually don't bother, but for $99 and some of the stories I've been reading online, I figured it was worth it.
Anyone bought any cases or accessories they really like?

^I picked up a rocketfish gel case to hold me over until incase gets their stuff together.
It keeps the back protected, but not really a fan of it.
