Hi all.
I got my first iPod recently and I love it. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to music, especially classical music. I am looking for a classical CD that would be great to start off the day with.
I want something with a really positive, uplifting quality -- so my mornings can get off on the right foot. I don't love my job, so anything to help get me in the right frame of mind is a good thing.
Thanks,
Joe

Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Mendelsohn's Violin Concerto, Mozart's Clarinet Concerto and Oboe Concerto, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. How's that for starters?

I like to explore genres that are new to my by sampling various collections and compilations. Or, just start on the main page for the classical genre in ITMS. By sampling various selections you can get an idea of what you like. Also check the Essentials collections in ITMS.
The classical Essentials "Leading Tones Oct 04" is a good place to start:

Click on a few of the samples you like, and then look for iMixes users have created like these:

Eventually, you will find the music and styles that suit you best :)

Renaissance choral music, especially Josquin des Prez--the Missa Pange Lingua in particular. There's one group in particular that I highly recommend, but I can't remember its name.

Händel's Water Music always gives me a lift. The history of the composition and its first performance on the Thames is very interesting.

Rondo Veneziano is an extraordinary chamber orchestra out of Italy. They play a wide range of music and I have only begun to explore their repertoire. Their website is worth a visit. rondoveneziano.com
