Im trying to restore it from an external hard drive with leopard disk image on it, but the iBook can't recognize the format.

The hard drive itself works fine on all other computers. Just not in my iBook.

Any suggestions?

What Mac OS X version are you using and what is the format (file system used) on that HDD?

Can you recognize it via Disk Utility, and if so, does a Verify Disk tell you anything?

Btw, what do you mean by "disk image"? Do you have a .dmg file copied to it and try to mount from it to install your OS? Or have you extracted it and try the same? Or what else do you mean?

Also if the drive is USB, you can't boot from it (easily). In order to boot from it, you'll need a FireWire drive (or be willing to do some hacking).

Also, it's crucial that the iBook is not running a G3, but had at least a 900MHz+ G4 in it. The official cutoff for Leopard is an 867 G4.

Aside from that, try putting the HDD in a firewire enclosure if possible. This way the disk will be bootable with the older hardware.
