ok guys i couldn't find a clear answer to this question. If i buy a new isight will it have a magnet in it to stick on the back of my new apple 20 inch display? Is this safe ? I will admit i dont know much about how a magnet will effect an lcd monitor. If the isight will how many versions of the isight are out there? Reason i am asking this is I was going to ask for 1 for christmas and dont want to get stuck with one that doesn't work with my monitor. Any help is appreciated thanks guys. :confused:

I'm pretty sure the iSight attaches just fine to any Apple display or computer. Mine came with four different ways to attach it. One was the magnet and the instruction booklet shows it being used on the new Apple Displays. And I think you stick the magnet to the top of the display, not the back. I'm sure it's perfectly safe. My iBook has a magnet in the clasp, and it doesn't hurt the LCD screen at all. I wouldn't drag the iSight magnet all over the screen, though. :)

magnets wont harm a LCD at all, CRT monitors on the other hand are different

ever taken a refrigerator magnet and dragged it across the front of a crt monitor? awesome! my friend always carries one in his pocket (wtf?) and takes it out in the computer lab. the screen gets all black around the magnet...but i cant imagine that's good for it. oh, to be on topic, it should be fine. apple wouldnt design something that they knew would b0rk up the display

The reason a magnet warps a crt's image is because a crt works by firing electrons at the screen, electron's are as we know it negatively charged, and thus a magnetic field can change the path of a charged particle. You can cause temporary and permanent damage to a crt depending on the strength of that magnetic field.
