Do I need to do the backup?

I backed up my iPod before downloading the update, and now an hour after downloading the update it's backed up around 5%, if that. Can I cancel the backup and still install 4.0, then get everything back from my old backup? This is ridiculously slow.

I know. It is sooooo Slow. I have had mine going for about 30mins-1hour and has only done one bar of the backup. And I backed it up like 10 minutes before the update.

I would like to skip it too!

If i download it on a brand new ipod touch (gonna get Ipod Touch 4g) will it still take so long?
