So maybe 4 months ago I bought a 27" iMac and I love it....maybe there is someone out there that is having a good time! Seems like this is not a MacRumor forum but a MacIssues forum...

In forums like this, you see a lot people complaining about their issues rather that saying how good their iMac is because they come to here to look for some help.

I love mine, have always did, just like most of the owners of an iMac

i haven't seen many people complaining about their i7. i think that's the only one worth buying before the refresh since the spec of it is unlikely to change drastically.

also, in many cases a lot of the hate comes from those who don't own one, merely voicing issues on how the components that make up the iMac look on paper (ie gpus and cpus).

Take a look at those yellow tinge threads and you see a lot people whining and crying. Component whiners are another story, they always compare Macs to PCs etc.

Why should I like your iMac :) .

I may have made the odd comment about components :)

But above all else I am very certain of one thing.

You pay a LOT for an iMAC.

You pay a LOT more than you would for the same spec of PC

So you are paying for 2 things.

1: The style/design/construction.

2: Quality.

The 1st is a given, apart from the odd story about a scratch or a bent stand, I'd think we are all happy about this aspect.

What people are not happy about is paying the Premium and getting sub standard quality.

Yellow screens, noisy drives, flickery screens, buzzing screens/power supplies etc.

That's not what people pay for and not what they should expect.

I've seen a number of people comment that they feel Apple's quality control has slipped a lot recently (Perhaps they just trying to do too much?)

I know if I'd paid out £2000 ($3000) on some top end mac (that I could of spent on a PC that was a much higher spec) then I dam well expect it to be as near perfect as can be as that's what I'm paying the extra for.

Couple months ago I ordered an alienware area 51 desktop for 4,800.00 Au apart from the video card and the Bly ray burner the iMac could compare for a cheaper cost of 3,300.00 Iam glad I cancelled it I also am using an Dell XPS 710 and have nothing but problems replaced key board and mouse, motherboard, speakers, DVD drive plus the countless errors with vista no sound in media centre, an error every-time I place a DVD etc once I get my iMac Iam sure I will love it 2

I absolutely loved my i7 for the 2 days that I had it! It had a row of dead pixels right out of the box, brand spanking new.

Anyway, it's Christmas at my house today. Both the replacement and my iPhone 4 32GB are moments away from being delivered!!

I'd have to disagree as far as the most recent lineup of 27 inch iMacs go. The way I see it, when they were introduced, they were extremely price competitive for what they offer.

iMacs are all-in-one, so they shouldn't be compared to towers to begin with; but could one really put together a decent tower pc with same components, the 2560x1440 screen etc for around the same price? Include software too.

I have an iMac from May of last year (2009). I guess that means its only a 24" iMac. I do know that I love it. Because of that iMac and my positive experiences with it, I've decided to get macs going forward. I love the operating system and the style. I went without a TV for over a year and the iMac was a little trooper. I played all my DVDs on it (until I just got a new TV last month) and they look great. I also use it for gaming (City of Heroes) and browsing and etc.

Love it.

I can't wait until the next iMac refresh, however big or small it is. I think I'm going to buy another one. Or maybe a Mac Pro. Or both. :) I'm currently loving the new mac mini server I just got, which will become my media center PC.

Anyway, the iMac got me going down this path and I'm having lots of fun. Good times!

I LOVE my new i7 27" iMac!

I am new to Macs but after using my Macbook for sometime i had to get a iMac...I had it for almost a week now and this thing is awesome!

I also own a 2.93Ghz i7 PC ( yeah i know having both is overkill ) and running some comparison tests, the iMac is about 3 seconds faster!

The ONLY thing that i am not really a huge fan of is the USB ports being in the rear ( though i know i can get a USB hub ) i do have the wired Apple keyboard that has the 2 USB ports on it, So thats a bonus ( not a fan of the small wireless keyboard with no keypad )

So far i have not had any issues and i have it running 18hrs a day..

Cool part is, I am learning something new everyday on this thing! The bad part is, I have not turned my PC on in about 4 days ( just turned it on to stream movies to my PS3 )

A lot of the posts are here were negative but then i thought this is a Forum and people are here looking for help or have issues with there devices, So expect to see a lot of "Its Broke" posts...

i had problems with my imac i7 it was a refurb from the apple store and arrived with no ram, ok applecare was a long annoying phone call, but after purchasing on the 16th yesterday arrived my new fully functional machine.

i have went from a 8-core 2008 mac pro with a 30" dell monitor to this imac and im in heaven everything works great and the build quality amazing, also this is quite possibly the most beautiful computer built

I certainly love my 21.5" iMac, even with the recent HDD failure. The performance and feature set blows me away. I bought my iMac and a MacBook Pro at the same time when I made "the switch" and have NO plans to go back to PC's. If only I could get away from them at work! :p :apple:

first imac i got was a indigo o9 g3 233mhz imac, replaced it two weeks later with the graphite g3 600mhz imac, next imac i got was a 17" g5 then a 20" white intel core duo model and now onto the 27" i7 imac.

between the g3 and g5 i had a g4titanium powerbook and with the g4 i got a g4 ibook have also had 15" g4 alu-powerbook and the black macbook currently use a unibody ibook. i also had a 2008 mac - pro 8-core.

im apple fan through and through, i loved the titanium powerbook unbelievably and thought it was a machine of beauty, ok all macs are but that was my first brand new machine and did everything i needed.

i love my macs, but after all this ranting i can honestly say imac = amazing machine and im glad i started where i did and never had a problem from them. and look forward to whatever other iterations it goes through

Totally LOVE my 27" iMac! with 8GB memory.
Solid and very fast.
Running VMware Fusion with Windows XP for a few Windows Financial apps.
That solution is rock solid.
Have swapped out the Apple wireless keyboard for the Logitec DiNovo wireless Mac keyboard.... a real nice keyboard.

Have the Airport Extreame as a wireless router and a large iomega USB SATA drive as my TimeMachine external backup disk....

Also have the Bowers & Wilkons MM-1 USB speakers... ear candy....

Cheers

When you finally get a sample, free from all rubbish, yes its a pleasure to work with it and its a good machine.
As a freelance photographer I do a lot of post-processing using Eizo-CG and the iMac 27, printouts A3 sizrs look exactly identical and Im happy to say that although its not a top class graphic piece, its bloody good.

I absolutely adore my 24" iMac, and the 27" i7 is next up on my list of things I really, really got to have. I have an iPad and a four year old MBP, but I spend the bulk of my computing time at my desk, where I can get work done while I'm doing a variety of other important tasks, like watching shows on Hulu.

People still rave over the iMac when they first see it, and I'm always surprised at how many people seem to have never seen one, and know next to nothing about Macs in general. I give them the standard tour, and they proclaim they're going to get one someday, but I doubt many of them will, because most people only know PCs as a result of their work training, and usually opt for the cheapest tower PC they can find at a big - box store. It's the way of the world; they either "get it," or they don't.

The iPad, the iPhone, the MBA, the MBP, and the MB are all "out there" for people to see and try out, so it's no wonder the iMac gets the short end of the popularity stick.

I don't care, really. The old blueberry colored G3 was my first Mac, and I'll always have an iMac as my primary, even if more and more mobility is the future trend.

I love my iMac, but what I also love is the customer service Apple provide. Admittedly I live 10 mins away from an apple shop, but my optical disk drive broke 3 days before a uni assignment was due in, which I have to run the course disk from a CD. I booked an appointment online and three hours later the genius replaced it (I had taken out apple care.)
When I wanted some advice about daisy chaining my time capsule with another external HD they were able to recommend which drive would work.

I have been working in IT for many years and always been Windows based. Recently bought a MBP 13" for my wife. Now of course I rarely get to use it, as it is "her baby" and cannot be taken from her grasp.

Have to say that when she is not looking, I have used it and it has made me excited about computers again. Build construction is great and keyboard a joy to use. Had a headache for a day or two learning the Mac idiosyncrasies (as I have to know this stuff) but getting better all the time.

Would like to go "all Mac" just worry that the minimal gaming I do on my Windows based machine will be expensive option (as opposed to a $1500NZ Dell machine), hoping a Graphics card bump on the Quad iMac will help.

Always interested in hearing peoples experience of Boot Camp W7 gaming on the iMac, does it work and do they have any real problems with drivers etc?

Great site by the way - first post, hope it will not be the last, so be kind...

I've had my i7 for 5 months now, and I love it. Best computer I've ever had, best computer screen I've ever had. And I've mounted it on the biggest articulated arm on the market, so it's super adjustable. Never had a lick of trouble with it. Very fast, does everything I throw at it.

For the first time ever, I've bought AppleCare, also. So, I've got 3 years of coverage on it from AC, BUT because I bought it with my American Express card, I've got an additional year of coverage on it through AmEx, for a total of 4 years of coverage. I'm hoping that it'll still be a serviceable computer in 4 years, and then once the coverage is over, I may start looking for a new one... what will the iMac of 2015 look like? And what will OS X look like? Actually never mind about the OS X - sadly, with the speed of development slowing down drastically, OS X in 2015 will probably look a lot like Snow Leopard does today - on the other hand the iPhone will cook your breakfast and do your laundry and teleport you throughout the universe.

I don't have an iMac, but my MBP is awesome even after one year of heavy use. When any Mac computer is refreshed, the prices are extremely competitive and most of the time even cheaper than a comparable PC. But as time goes on, the price of components become cheaper but the price of a Mac is the same. So comparing a one year old Mac to a few days old PC, it's not exactly fair. PCs and Macs have different refresh times and that should be taken in account when comparing the two. That being said, Macs also retain their value better than any PC. In short, I love my Mac and will save up for an iMac.

I have very low vision. My 22" (Sony) Gateway CRT monitor went south about a year ago. I searched and searched for a monitor that would equal its quality of resolution. No luck....

I finally took a look at the Apple products. Finally, a display that was comparable to the old Gateway CRT!

Approximately six months ago, I purchased both a Mac Book Pro 13" and an iMac 21.5". Since I have used Linux since the 90s, OS X was almost familiar, only better. OS X is perfect, no fiddling and just about everything is included.

Bottom line: Both of my Macs are perfect - I'm a lifetime convert.

I love my iMac as well. I recieved my iMac last friday in a big bad ass box. :D Turning it on for the first time was sweet and it was sooo huge! (27" iMac Core i7).

I am new to the Mac, 2 weeks before I recieved my iMac I bought the MacBook 13" 2010 edition. Since I needed a new laptop and I wanted to try out a Mac.

As you can see, I liked it! The Mac is great and the iMac is sweetness! I can even play WoW at max settings! And my PC has a dual setup of 4850, 2 gig of mem and a quad core e6600 at 2.4 gigz.

I guess WoW is more CPU then GPU intensive.

I guess WoW is more CPU then GPU intensive.

As far as I know WoW is quite ram intensive. Putting 4+ gb in your pc would probably make a huge difference. 2gb is definitely not enough.

As far as iMacs are concerned, I like my 24" one. I'd even love it if it didn't have that crappy mirror screen.

It's easy to get a negative impression of things based on postings.. I lurked on these boards for about a year before buying my iMac 24" and I think timed my purchase just about right on a product refresh back then..

With all of the complaints on the "new" design I really thought I was taking a huge risk and found myself scouring my screen for that one stuck pixal, yellow streak, backlight inconsistancies, worry about the glossy screen, listening for the occasional "Wirrr", and terrified about how hot it sometimes gets up at the top....

The buzz on these boards was tremendous with the Mac haters and Mac lovers in constant discourse...

At the end of the day, I realized that a significant majority of happy owners take up a significant minority of "Everything is great" threads even if they bother to post. Most posters are to ask for help, see if they are the only ones with a problem, and inevitibly post on things that are not perfect.

I couldn't be happier with my investment, and look forward to more purchases. Am holding off a month for my iPhone 4 though...

I love my new i7 27" wonderscreen.

Now, a poster earlier said I could spend less overall money and build a machine with similar processing capabilities but that's part of what I do for my day gig.

To get a monitor with the clarity, size, and color saturation of the 27" screen in this computer I'd have to spend pretty decently.

If I wanted to beat the corei7 2.8 ghz in the iMac I'd have to go spend lots of dollars on the corei7 extreme that costs $999 at the local Microcenter.

I'd have to get some type of tower case and appropriate motherboard and then make sure that it can he "hackintoshed".
The motherboard would have to run with both FW800 AND USB3 (I know the imac only does usb2 but that's fair since I have no usb3 hardware yet).
It would have to be able to hold at least 16 gigs of ram DDR3 or better.

I'd have to get some decent drives and then look for a decent video card that wasn't so expensive that it was the majority of the system but wasn't so cheap it was junk.

I seriously considered this. I might still do it as a "hobby project" down the road.

But then I encountered the i7 27" in a local store.

But there were a few things that sold me on the i7 27":
-geekbench score approaching 10,000.
-none of my self-built pcs come anywhere close to that.
-logic pro 81 track stereo session with high def video - machine isn't even breathing hard.
-that SCREEN!

Yeah. I might regret it later since I am a PowerMac G5 owner and I enjoyed the tower that I could pop multiple drives in as well as upgrade the video card (which I did) and max out the ram.

But, I can expand this suitably to 16 gigs, I can deal with the internal drive and get bigger external ones.

Thinking. Yeah I like it.

If none of your self built PC's come close to an i7 iMac you're doing it really wrong. It's so easy to build an i5 or an i7 and overclock it to 4ghz. It would trounce the iMac. High quality parts are not expensive, and are better than anything in an iMac (or a mac pro for that matter). It is very easy to do all of this.

Of course I agree on the iMac's looks, it's probably the nicest looking computer ever made. And the screen, if it was of decent quality, would look great as well. But it's just got too many issues overall. Had two of them. Both were bad. Maybe next rev? I still kinda want one. Just had to point out the fallacies in thinking it's better than a standard PC version. It's really not.

It's not that I was doing it wrong: it's that they are OLD!

I can overclock this - it's shown on geekbench that people are overclocking these systems to 4.12 ghz (not that I need to do that).

I'll reserve judgement on the issues. My concern is that that beautiful housing hides a rats nest of thermal problems but we'll see.

I've actually got a cooling fan pointing to the back of the case pointing slightly upwards and it dropped the internal temps around 20 degrees according to temperature monitor.

But I need to really tromp on it under load and unfortunately Seti at Home's servers aren't up right now or I'd be crunching some numbers at 100%.

bit paranoid there? this is under windows?

ive found the cooling of my iMac to be wonderful. 65c under load once the fans kick in (by themselves).
