FEAR SEEMS to be working for President Bush in Pennsylvania - but not quite well enough.

With one week to go before Tuesday's presidential election, the latest Daily News/ CN8 Keystone poll shows that Pennsylvania voters who rank terrorism or homeland security as the No. 1 issue are overwhelmingly supporting the president. A full 82 percent of them say they plan to vote for Bush.

But those voters comprise only a quarter of the electorate. Voters who list other major campaign issues - the economy, health care or the war in Iraq - as their top campaign issues are solidly in Kerry's camp, with 70 percent of economy voters, 64 percent of health-care voters and 71 percent of war-focused voters preferring Kerry.

Fifty-two percent of the state's voters interviewed for the poll ranked one of those three issues as their top priority. Collectively, their votes seem to be pushing Kerry toward victory.

The poll showed Kerry leading Bush by a five-point margin overall among both registered and likely voters, with Kerry leading 49 to 44 percent among registered voters and 51 to 46 percent among likely voters.

i'd like to see more of these "fear-mongering" polls. eighty-two percent, that's huge. i wonder what bush's numbers would be like if americans got over their fear.

Be afraid... The wolves are at the gate, and the only thing keeping them out is steadfast leadership.

Sure we were looking the other way when 9/11 happened, and sure we flubbed the one real shot we had at bin Laden, and sure we said we wouldn't make the same mistakes in Afghanistan and we made them, and sure we were wrong on that whole WMD thing in Iraq, and sure we could have done more to prevent a popular insurgency from forming in post-Saddam Iraq, and sure we have never been wrong about anything and can't think of anything we'd do differently if we had the chance, but THIS time you can rest assured that we will get it right.

Just remember, the wolves are at the gate. If Kerry is elected Cheney even says those wolves will get in and hit us again.

People are sick of hearing of it and just want it to be over. Some people think Kerry can give that to us. Some people think somehow Bush will help us "win". Some people are smart enough to know there are no simple answers... only simple people. But only if you people those headlines and the stuff you see on TV. You shouldn't believe all that skewed liberal truth stuff. Believe the Bush administration. They aren't wrong. Really.

Let's pick apart their metaphor, shall we?

Wolves have no natural predators, save parasites and disease.

The evil Arab terrorists are transmogrified into a pack of wolves, but our saviors in Bush/Cheney must remain men with guns.

And we must be sheep.
