Just accidentally dropped my iPhone 4 in the bathroom and the rear glass shattered on the tile. I bought the phone with Amex business platinum. Has anyone used Amex's purchase protection before to replace a damaged iPhone? The phone is EXTREMELY fragile. I should've been more careful, but the 3G/3GS was a much tougher phone. The new and improved glass that supposedly 20x stronger then normal glass is ********. It was dropped from maybe 3 feet tops and has a spider crack on the rear glass. 🙁

Be more careful. I've only ever dropped my phone twice, both of which were them falling out of my backpack. Do people just have slippery hands or something?

You'd only be covered up to the price you paid, so you'd have to cough up the balance of the unsubsidized price if you were to purchase a new one at the no-commitment price outright.

However, doesn't Apple still have a policy of replacing shattered iPhone for $200? If so, you can just submit a claim for that amount.

Buy the Amex coverage now, use the phone for a week or so and then call in and say, "Whew glad I bought the protection plan before I dropped my phone I'm such a klutz!" 😉

You're still going to shell out at least 400 bucks though... You don't think Amex is going to cover the price to buy a full priced phone do you?

That's called fraud.

It was a joke, my family business has Amex and protection is always included as stated below. We buy most of our Mac products this way. We even had a Macbook stolen at delivery to our office and was replaced by Amex 🙂

You're aware that the purchase protection plan is automatically included when you charge an item to the card in full? No separate purchase necessary.

Wow, the OP dropped his brand new iPhone. Ya know, the one we've ALL been waiting for for what seems like forever?
And we all want pics?
Give the guy a break.

OP,
My only suggestion would be to go to the Apple store and see what they can do.
I'm really sorry for what happened.
Maybe buy a bumper this time if you are able to get it replaced.

if you go to the Apple store and state the phone came this way, its early enough for them to believe it

they are generally pretty generous when it comes to that
I remembered i dropped my ipod video back in the day and went in and said that i didnt drop it, the parts on the inside just became loose, and low and behold I walked out with another ipod video 😀

That sucks man! I'm so sorry 🙁. Like someone else said, can't you get the AT&T insurance and a week later say oh crap I dropped it. It's not really fraud because a broken back is a broken back. And if it is fraud, you just got the freaking thing man! That sucks!
