I'm going on a long distance cycle. Just wondering if theres any sort of app that tracks my by GPS so that friends and family can follow me online?

I used to use this one. It's a great little app, but it hasn't been updated for ages. So it won't work with iOS4 multitasking.

You can then embed a google map window in html onto a website which tracks your iPhone.
