iMac i5

I have an iMac and after it sleeps and sometimes other than that.. I get ton's of disk io to the point the system slows to a crawl.

I am not doing anything more than the basics and its slow!

I has 8GB of memory, yes I know thats over kill...

Anyone have some ideas where I start to debug this issue?

Reset PRAM and SMC and repair the permissions and verify the disk with Disk Utility
