I'd suggest keeping a wallpaper for a couple days. I couldn't get used to the iOS 4 stock wallpaper until after 2 days.

I did the exact same thing, and I trawled those threads posted. Find all the wallpapers very distracting and they throw off the look of the icon screens (I'm an aesthetics hound!).
My solution was this:
Find the wallpaper you want on your lock screen and make a black and white version. You can up the contrast a little too (you can of course have the black and white version of the lock screen too, but as long as B&W version is on home page, it looks great).
I used a B&W photograph and I'm very pleased with how it looks. Icons etc really 'pop' off the screen now.

Not sure if anyone has already posted these but, I really like these wallpapers for the iPhone. They're mostly abstract, simple and they don't distract my eye from the important stuff (my apps). Also, I use Backblaze and like the service.
