I just noticed that Google maps is really really slow today on my new iPhone 4. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm on a speedy wifi network. I noticed after installing a new app called "Where am I" or something like that. I deleted the app and rebooted but it is still super slow. I'm hoping I didn't jack up my phone.

Always something isn't it?

I too am having the same issue in google maps. Makes me feel better that it's not just me at least

Yesterday both my GF and I noticed the slow down in google maps too.
However she was on her 3GS while I was on my 4.

Might just be an issue with google maps if more people noticed it on their 3GS or older iPhones too.

And yes, I registered just for this thread. :p

Solution

My problem: Typing on the Google Maps app was very slow, independent of network connection.

My solution: Apparently there are issues with the GPS multitasking. I went to Settings > General > Location Services. Notice you can toggle the GPS for each app. Apps using the GPS have a purple arrow next to the ON/OFF switch. I turned location services off for every other app with the purple arrow. I went back to the Google Maps application and everything worked well.

This might not work for everyone but it worked for me.
