Most of the music discussed here... I've never heard of! :)

Any Country music fans out here?

Favorite Artists
Favorite Songs

I'm partial to Faith Hill and Sara Evans, but I like most country music.

I like other music too... mostly 80's stuff I guess, or classic rock

But I haven't seen much country music discussed.

Am I all alone here? :p

Personally I can't stand country music (especially Toby Keith http://msgplus.mybboard.com/images/smilies/throwup.gif), but I'd rather listen to it than another ying yang twins song or any rap for that matter.

I really don't like any of this new pop-country stuff. I do enjoy country from the likes of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, though.

The summer after my freshman year of high school, I worked at the county fair. The stand I worked was right next to the country radio station booth. They played all the stuff I hate and I came to loathe working. I never worked the fair after that...

Hell yeah!

Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, Julie Miller, Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett. There's a whole lot more to country music than what gets played on the radio.

Toby Keith can be a little "in your face" I suppose :)
Care to comment on exactly why you dislike him in particular?

Maybe you would prefer Alan Jackson's style.

Great selection!

Alison Krause is awesome. She (w/Union Station) has such a distinctive voice and style. Not to mention she is beautiful!

"we'll stick a boot up their ass-it's the American way". If that's the 'American way' then I'm not proud to be an American. That makes all of America look like dumbasses who can't comprehend civil agreements, we solve our problems by sticking boots up asses.

All I have to say to Toby Keith is:

FUTK

I can completely understand your point.

Instead of Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue", how about Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning"?

Are there any Country artists/music that you do like?

The only country I let near my hard drive is Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Buffett, Red Sovine, C.W. McCall, and any other cool outlaw or truckin' country.

That **** played on corporate radio (Morris Communications comes to mind) is low-grade music.

I prefer Bossa Nova and other Latin music.

I don't think there's anything I need to say about country music that hasn't been said before... 'contemporary sucks', 'classic is great', 'here's a list of country artists who are actually good', etc. I'm among one of the many who shares those viewpoints.

But I will say that Ween's 12 Golden Country Greats amuses me greatly. It was meant to be a gimmick/theme album, but still winds up kicking ass from both a country-music and Ween-music perspective.
Such is the genius of Gener & Deaner.
