saving videos from web with quicktime pro

Will Quicktime Pro let you download and save video from the web to my computer? I've never purchased Pro before, but I might if I could save videos to my computer.

Usually. There are some that it won't allow, but most will give you the option of saving them to your disk. If you're familiar with your browser's caching mechanism, many of those movies are probably there already....

Really? How would I check if I'm using Safari?
 
I thought Safari cached them to disk, but I can't find anything after playing a few large QuickTime movies via the web. Perhaps it's all in RAM. Sorry! IE might be easier to figure out....
 
there's no need for pro...
in 99% of cases i've seen, you can do it yourself (though it may require you to redownload the movie from scratch)
if you want to learn how, post the address of a site with a movie, and i'll give you detailed instructions... 😀

A lot of times if the browser is loading an html page with the QT embedded in it, you only have to look at the source code ('View>view source') to see the relative path to the video itself. (Look for a .mov reference in there)

Type this path into your browser and it will load the QT directly, outside of the html page, and you just do a Save.

I might also suggest doing a search on your hard drive for 'date modified is today' to find the cached version.

Edit: You may also need to set 'show visible and invislbe files' in your search criteria.
 
Or you can right click and 'Save linked file as…' but that only works when you have a link to just the file rather than a page that contains it. Otherwise, do the Activity Window thing.

1) Wait for it to finish loading in the movie window, click the triangle on the right pointing down, and choose "Save as quicktime movie". Note, the whole video must load before this option is available.


2) View menu, View Source (as mentioned above). Find this:

webclipsma.mov

And put it at the end of the web address instead of the page name. So, replace this:

http://www.peacerivergolf.com/clips/learn/austin.htm

with this:

http://www.peacerivergolf.com/clips/learn/webclipsma.mov

This will load the movie itself in a window, and not a webpage. Then, just choose File menu, Save As. You will save just the movie, not the html page.


3)Wait for it to finish loading, then control or right click. Choose "Save as Quicktime movie".

Well now that I know the activity monitor methd (thanks) I recommend you do that. It's much quicker.
