I started the "remake better than original" thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=95787) and everybody seemed to want the reverse... but nobody started one.

So... here it is!

I can't think of any yet, but I wanted to give all of you a place to drop your bombs so to speak.

Go for it!!

A friend of mine had received an album for his 11th birthday from a considerate relative who knew of his love for all things Star Trek & The Beatles... still has it to this day.

OK edesignuk, you are my witness, this Star Trek reference is not my fault! :p

(See here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=82590&page=11&pp=40) for explanation.)

Alright. I'm going with the assumption that original version has be a "good" song itself. Otherwise, the winner is Phil Collins' "Groovy Kind of Love."

1. "Hello, I Love You" by The Cure (Originally by The Doors)
2. "Come Together" by Aerosmith (The Beatles)
3. "Downtown" by Sinatra (Petula Clark)

I'm sure I'll come with some more later.

Darn, you took mine. Oh well. How about Madona covering Don McClean's "American Pie" - Absolute crap...

Duff-Man says....I've got a couple to add....David Bowie doing Tom Verlaine's "Kingdome Come" - why on earth would he try and sing it like it's a Las Vegas tune, complete with cheesey backup chick singers......Nick Cave doing "Here Comes the Sun" - now, I love Nick's music, been buying his stuff since day one, but this version just stinks real bad......oh yeah!

Hall & Oates cover of "Family Man," originally written/performed by Mike Oldfield.
Not that the original is the finest piece of music ever done (even by Oldfield), but Hall & Oates' version is just horrible.

Marilyn Manson's cover of "Sweet Dreams," by The Eurythmics (sp?).

I was browsing the radio in Yakima, WA a couple of years ago and heard the worst cover ever. The only reason the DJs played it was to make fun of it. I think it may have been the worst thing I've ever heard: Dolly Parton doing Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven!

Busta Rhymes' version of "Ironman" by Black Sabbath is, ugh, horrific. Almost more of a remix than a cover though.

I heard a bootleg once of a (live) Radiohead cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" that I thought was pretty awful.

Also heard a live cover of Britney Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time" sung by Weezer that had me rolling on the floor. Not necesarily bad (look at the original!), but funny.

Mandy Moore completely butchers XTC's "Senses Working Overtime". PAINFUL!

Speaking of "Ironman", the Cardigans cover it nicely.

There's a band called Hayseed Dixie with an album of naught but AC/DC covers. Take your pick.

Supposedly, they have a complete version of The Wall coming soon, too.

A band (if you want to call it that) known as "Nine Inch Richards" did a cover of NIN's "closer", putting a beastial spin on the lyrics and turning a popular industrial song into a banjo twanging disaster.

Mandy Moore completely butchers XTC's "Senses Working Overtime".

Mandy Moore also does a cover of "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. Like every girl her age, she probably loved the movie Love Actually and just haaaad to learn the song at the end. :o

And SS's cover of Comfortably Numb isn't that bad. ;) I sorta like their version, or at least it isn't the worst cover of all time.

Jessica Simpson covering Robbie Williams' not-so-old song, Angels......maybe she thought it was a classic from alllll the way back in the early 2000's.

Chris Martin/Coldplay covering "Ms Dynamitee-hee"!!

Oh, and how about Justin Timberlake being a walking, talking, cover of Michael Jackson ....... but more black, and in a thuggish-for-a-white-dude-from-the-'burbs kind of way.
