hey guys: got myself an emac 2.1 but now require an airport card which I'm informed by the lovely people at Apple that they no longer manufacture! I'm looking on ebay but am unsure what Im exactly looking for. Do I need a base station?


If any of you guys could check these out I'd be eternally grateful..

Congrats on your new eMac. I assume you want to have a wireless internet connection for the eMac? If so, you will need one wireless access point (aka, "base station") to send out the wireless signal and one Airport card in your eMac to receive the wireless signal.

Note that the base station can either be an Airport base station or another Wireless-B station. Note that anything faster than 802.11b will likely be a waste, since the original Airport card is only b capable.

You may also be able to get an external wireless USB G adapter from someplace like Linksys to be used with a G access point, but I've heard mixed reviews as to how well the USB adapters work with the Mac.

USB adaptors can be problematic, but ethernet one's rock. linksys wet11 and wet54 are great, and belkin makes a "g" ethernet adaptor. Bets thing is they are OS independent so require no drivers.
