Is there a way to export a Microsoft Word document to an image?

If you're using Panther, you can 'Save as PDF' from the Print menu, then use the app of your choice (Photoshop, Graphic converter, etc) to change it to an image file.
 
Not directly. But you could save as PDF and use Preview to export the pages as image files.

Edit: Doh! brap was a little quicker...
