My daughter was over yesterday and said, "Look at this." My granddaughter, Logan, 1 and 1/2, had gotten up on the desk chair and was typing at the keyboard of my Imac. Last night I went to look something up on google and saw that I was typing in what appeared to be arabic. I thought that if I restarted the imac I would get it back to default settings. No such luck and now I can't login as my password won't be accepted. I have tried com, alt, control and shift along with the space bar, both together and sequentially with no luck. How do I get back to english?

1. Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274)
Set you password to no password, then log in to your account, which has no password now.
Then do the following:
2. Mac OS X - change language (http://blog.langalot.com/2010/02/14/mac-os-x-change-language-for-immersion.html), in Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.x) it is called Language & Text instead of International.

When I put in the install disk nothing happens. When I restart, with and without holding down command, control or the letter c it just brings me back to the login screen which I can't get past. I have mac osx 10.4 disc although I had updated the software to 10.5.

So holding down the C key while the grey restore DVD 1 is in your Mac, nothing happens? Is that the right restore DVD for your Mac? Or do you have the Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD you could try?
How to reset your Mac OS X password without an installer disc (http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-without-an-installer-disc/)

Sounds like a problem with your keyboard. Try plugging in a different one.
Cheers.

It may be the keyboard. When I tried that last solution, nothing happened. As soon as I heard the chime I pressed down command and s but it just went through the restart and brought me back to the log in screen.
My account is the administrator account and I have a standard account for my wife. When I enter through her account, which is not password protected I can access the startup disk. When I go through utilities to try and get to passwords I am locked out and can't get in.
When I am in her account I can type in and see the result. What is the most likely combination that my granddaughter hit to switch the language.
I don't have another keyboard around and would rather spend a 1/2 hour trying different combos to see if I can get back to english at this point as nothing else has worked.
Thanks.
Trying to restore the keyboard was not successful at this point. I realized, however, that the result is not arabic. J is a triangle, a is an a with a little dot above it, so it is some other thing, not a language, going to get a keyboard now.
