View Full Version : What's your guilty pleasure?

Tonight a few network TV channels interrupted normal programming in order to carry a police pursuit live. The rational side of me says that chases are bad: they cost money and manpower. Often, they result in property damage or (heaven forbid) injury to one or more parties. As awful as this sounds, though, I secretly thought to myself, "YESSS, police chase to watch!" There is something just so exciting about watching a live police chase.
The chase went on for a while, and eventually they just returned to normal programming, much to my dismay. Now I feel dirty for watching it, but what can I say -- it's a guilty pleasure. :o
So, fellow Macrumors members, what's your guilty pleasure? ;)

High fat, great tasting food. It's nearly 3PM and I haven't eaten lunch yet so I'll name off some foods that I simply love to eat but are so bad for me:
Fettucine Alfredo - I make this from scratch using TWO sticks of butter for the white sauce...sooooo good.
Cheesecake - If you've ever been to the Cheesecake Factory, one slice of their plain variety is nearly 1000 calories. Of course, I'll get the kind with chocolate or candy bars or oreos in them...
Macaroni and Cheese - Again, made from scratch using heavy cream. It's just comfort food.
Bacon - Doesn't matter what I eat it with. Bacon is just the greatest salted meat ever invented.
Italian Pastry - In Boston in the North End, there is this place called Mike's Pastry. It is heaven. Along with mouth-watering cannoli's and many other sweet treats, they have this delicacy called a lobster tail which is essentially this huge crunchy shell that looks like a lobster's tail and it's filled with sweet white cream...my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Krispy Kreme Donuts - Eat one warm and you'll know what crack must taste like.
...I think it's lunch time...
Surprisingly, I'm really not into fast food. I use to eat it every so often but lately, I haven't at all. Hope the feeling lasts...with everything else that I mentioned, I'm well on my way to a triple-bypass before I'm 30!

if you are 40+, nobody will blame you, because you will be dead from those pleasures!...and you won't be around to have people criticize your lifestyle ;)
i like those cheap, plastic wrapped beefsticks, salami, round table pizza, donuts, and other stuff
my most recent diabetes/heart disease/stroke/cancer test showed me to be much better off than average... but my previous test, in early 1997, showed me i was doomed with 231 cholesterol and bad, bad, super-bad ratios...but the recent good news of my blood sugar and cholesterol does not give me license to eat all bad foods all the time
i worked at the local hospital for 3 years and in our new age of obeseness, i have seen people in their 20s and 30s on their last legs...heart attack, bypass, wills, etc...very, very sad to see

You actually get your programming cancelled or changed to show a police chase? That's crazy! Seemingly plenty of people get kicks out of it though, and so it's a ratings winner  :D
In Britain we just get loads of shows, generally on the crappy channels, like Channel 5, Sky One and Bravo that show these - things like "When police chases go bad 7" :D :D

You mean you don’t? ;)
Police chases are surprisingly common in southern California (where I live). They don’t broadcast so many of them live nowadays, however. After a man in a chase killed himself a few years back, they’ve reduced the live broadcasts. In the past, though, you could flip between multiple channels and see the chase live from multiple angles, due to all the different news helicopters following it. :)

I was flicking thorugh our 200 or so channels, on Foxtel (The most popular Pay TV Cable and Sattellite service in Australia), and I stopped on TechTV. I now regularly watch it. That's my first guilty pleasure.
Now for my second. I hit the channel up button. I landed on a Yu-Gi-Oh anime marathon. I watched two episodes. Even worse, when it was on again a few days after, I watched it then too. It's a horrible show, but I watched it. Most of me watned to change channel, part of me wanted to throw up, but part of me liked it. And for some weird reason, is listened to that little part.
I can't belive I watched it! And I keep on the look out for more times it is on. ARRRGH!
Oh, and I'm also kinda embarrased that I have read the entire Love Hina manga three times, and am now reading it again.

Wild cattle orgys.
Their is nothing quite like wakeing up to the sound of cow sex.
The land directly in front of our house is a huge cow pasture, with around 120 head of cattle at any given time, and only 5 bulls. Needless to say thoe five bulls get "plenty" of action all year long.
It's not uncommon in our house for me to be sitting here reading MR and hear my wife yell at me from the front porch, "honey come look at this, mr. chow is going to crush that heffer he's ****ing, should we call Fred?"
You just cant help but look.
BTW, mr. chow is the name of our favorate bull. (yes we have a favorate cow, sad isnt it.)
And Fred is my neighbor who owns the cows, we think he gets off watching the cow screw.

out of all the things i do that most people *think* i should feel guilty for...
(and there are a lot)
i can only think of two:
Eating at McDonalds. Other fast food doesn't bother me, but McD does. Supports most of the things i hate (genetic manipulation, hormone treatments, agribusiness) and, even having never seen any of the propoganda, i know how bad it is for me. But dammit, once every couple of months, my willpower caves...
Following trends. I hate other people that wander around plastered with expensive labels and adorned in the latest fashions, yet i do it myself, at least some of the time.
So i guess my guilty pleasure is being a hypocrite :o :(

Same here. I have this strange habit of carrying my digital camera around with me as well. If I see something when I go out and it's weird or interesting, I'll take a picture of it. Sometimes, it's just random things like traffic with the backdrop of the setting sun or a strange number plate like this one I saw the other day : UBFRE2.
The owner of the car was sitting in his car though so I didn't take a picture. :)
