If it's not released around September, I would declare Mac Pro to be dead. There is nothing for Apple to wait for. Sandy Bridge is a year away (Xeons) and new GPUs aren't coming before 2011. Apple can't just skip one more or less significant generation

Back in March and May the worst case scenario was September. Now it's just couple of months away. At this point what's a couple of months after waiting this long? See you in September :D

september... would be very disapointing. getting overpriced hardware 4-5 months after the release is just... -.-

They did do this with the Mac Mini a few years back when they skipped the 2008 update. I don't think they will for the Mac pro, but apple does stuff like that now and again.

There is no substance to a September rumour, other than it is a date in the future. The only reason September began being mentioned is because hardmac completely misunderstood something and reported it as the new Mac Pros begin delayed to September.

They've been so slow getting updates for these models out. I think Hex is fairly certain but Sept is too long of an update cycle.

I know but the people who buy Mini don't need that much performance, in fact, most buyers would still be fine with that 2007 model. Mac Pro is meant for people who really need the performance and currently Apple isn't offering the best performance they could, 27" iMac is actually about as fast as quad Mac Pro which is ridiculous when thinking that iMac comes with 1000$ 27" monitor. Of course Apple could skip Westmere but I don't get it why would they as Sandy Bridge is so far away.

Now with the new GPUs rumor, I guess we are very close to the update.

Holy Cow! that's pretty rock solid! I'm going to plan all my finances and business decisions on this.

Then I'll post a thread about how Apple screwed me over when October rolls around and there's no MP.

I'll wait for september when they announce that it's all virtual cloud and grid computing www.gridcafe.org and that all we need is a broadband connection a password to server services, keyboard, mouse and a screen.

Oh and the $4,000 fee for the password and then the annual renewal fee.

You joke, but people believed the Mac Pro was delayed because of that hardmac article.

The best evidence yet that Apple is going to update the Mac Pro is the hidden code revealing the new graphics cards. Furthermore, I can't believe that Apple won't refresh the Mac Pro with the hex chips.

Are those the same people that believe the iPad had some actual magic in it?

Just seems like more speculation. Apple likes to keep things secret, why would they tell some random guy about them updating a certain computer in September?

No they are people who took a news site as saying delay until September as fact without reading or understanding the details, or assumed as multiple people were citing it that it was credible.

I dunno... personally I'm still betting on the late June rumors. They seem the most likely.

You are probably going to need that money for a time machine if you intend to buy in late June.

This (http://www.hardmac.com/news/2010/04/23/intel-hexa-core-cpu-virtual-release) is the only hardmac/MacPro Sept article I know of.

There was a poster here at macrumors who also claimed an inside Apple so called "in the know" source (for whatever that is worth) for the September time frame. I'm beginning to believe in this rumor since all is super quiet otherwise. Not even a squeak of a real rumor since early in the year. It's very frustrating and the longer it goes, it's going to be like buying a 2010 car in the fall at full price. Hex cores will then be six months old in hardware terms. Is isn't right. I think Apple has misplayed their hand on this one from a marketing standpoint.

Why does that matter?

Why does that matter?

Because those waiting in line outside the Mac Store for 6 month old hardware wouldn't be so cool.

It is poor apple is taking so long update the new MP lines. I am not one of the people desperate for one, i was so disappointed with the previous base model 8 core (2.26) i purchased the 2008 2.8 Octo instead as i found it for £1500 on sale in john lewis. Apple was selling the 2.26 for £2600! which is £1100 more with extremely little performance increase.
I dont know if you remember also that the 2.8ghz quad cores in the 2008 mac pro cost nearly twice that of the 2.26ghz versions in the 2009 mac pro and they decided to sell it at an extra £1000 premium of the 2008 version.. if i remember correctly the 2008 mac pro sold at £1800.
I love apple but they do seem to be short changing the professionals and with the lack of update it seems they are losing what i thought was the point of apple (before the consumer products) which was to create amazing professional solutions for creatives. Now we haven't seen an update in design, decent professional displays or competent upgrades with realistic technology that will keep professionals at the forefront of their profession since 2008 if you ask me.
TBH i cant complain about the design because i love it, and its ease of use but! in terms of expandability, only 4 drives most workstations have options of 6 drive bays and faster storage solutions as standard not at a huge premium. Im glad that my mac pro is still fast enough for what i do, because if i wanted one at full price with the spec i would want i would be running into the £4000 bracket! and i dont care who you are, even as a professional making alot of money that is still a chunk of change that a pro would rather not part with. Id rather put that as a deposit on a new BMW M3 if im honest!

So sick of Apple and their noninformation. Steve could at least drop a hint. It's not like we haven't been waiting a ridiculously long time.

Why does that matter?

It matters because the same way the 2009's are seeming overpriced and long in the tooth (technology wise), so to will be the mac pro 2010, but may have an even shorter shelf life, technologically speaking. Now some may disagree with this viewpoint, and that is fine, but once you free yourself from the Apple technology clutches, it is blatantly obvious.

Or, maybe there is no hint because there is nothing to hint about. In other words, worst case scenario. I'm encouraged by one thing and one thing only though. The new vid card references in the mini. It's really ALL we have to go on. I can't imagine why else they would out those in there, but there still is no time reference.
