I thought I saw something about it starting on Nov 8th, but now I can't find that. Can someone tell me when the open beta is supposed to be available?

Thanks!

The open beta starts tomorrow. Check www.worldofwarcraft.com.

I don't see where on their site it says anything about the start date for the open beta...

Trust me, it starts today. By checking the site I meant when they release information on how to download and sign up, it'll be on there.

Ok, I don't know that much about this game, but I am a looong time blizzard fan, and I just watched the WoW trailer. WOW! I think I am going to have to give this game a shot, even though strategy games like War3 are usually more my preference...

I want my beta so I can know whether or not I should throw money at blizzard!

I just hope they do it in the evening. There's no way I can download the client and try to make an account early in the day. I'll be at class (and the wireless network here just can't handle the load)!!!

Trust them to release WoW at the worst possible time for me: 2 weeks before my first semester law school exams

The site went down less than 2 minutes ago, and has come back... and it's here! (5:02 EST)

IT HAS BEGUN, gentlemen. Get yourselves a Fileplanet account (free) and join the party.

Don't tell them that! I'm having enough trouble getting onto the site as it is!

Hah, me too... well... try in a few hours, guys. This isn't working too well.

Argh. Does anyone else get to the image verification page, only to get the "invalid code" message? And they even try to blame that on my firewall or computer there...

"IMPORTANT NOTE:* The image above is created dynamically and served through a separate server.* If it does not appear, or if you only see the message "invalid code", your computer is blocking the image from appearing.* This problem may be caused by either a firewall or certain Ad-Blocking software.* Please adjust your security settings to allow this image to be displayed."

Congratulations! You have been accepted into the World of Warcraft® Open Beta.

:D

For the verification page, I had to reload about 20 times

Bluefusion
Nov 8, 2004, 05:30 PM
I've gotten all the way to the verification page, but it always has an error at the end of that one... and hitting Back takes me all the way back to the signup, which then won't load for another 20-30 refreshes :P

Nov 8, 2004, 05:31 PM
The thing is 2.5 GIGS!

And my broadband hasn't been installed yet!

Bluefusion
Nov 8, 2004, 05:33 PM
You didn't know that? I was in Stress Test; same size then, I believe.

How are you going to download it without broadband? I'd be happy to take your key off your hands, if you can't... ;)

So wait... all that refreshing took place over a 56k? Wow.

I got my key too. Now I just need to be able to reach the main WoW site so I can create an account.

Good thing I downloaded the client yesterday in a leisurely 4 hours. I can't imagine what the wait times on fileplanet must be for the client today!

Nice of them to open it up before those of us who have a life and aren't in the Eastern time zone could actually make it home.

Lovely....

fileplanet is reporting that all open beta keys are gone!!!!!! Oh man, that didn't take long!

Now I'm pissed. I saw the beta was open so I went through the whole process. I had to refresh about 10 times to even submit. After that I go to put my key in and I kept getting the error saying it could not be submitted. After an hour of trying, I did not have any success. Now the betais closed and I never got the chance to download it.

I currently have 256, and I'm waiting for 2 megabit, which was apparently going to be installed last Friday

This is very slow going - 15-30k/sec. And then I have to wait for an open beta key?

i'm getting about 130KB/s over here, hopefully i'll be able to play before bed time.

Bluefusion
Nov 8, 2004, 10:03 PM
I had INSANE transfer rates over FilePlanet (once it finally did work) of over 300k/s...

be warned that, while the unzip didn't take too long (about 8 minutes), the installation takes almost 40 on my G5 iMac.

Now I'm just pissed because I can't create an account--I have everything installed and ready to go! Grrr. I guess that would imply that the game servers are down too, though, so I suppose I'm not missing anything. Still annoying... :P

This is ridiculous. I had more than enough time to get a key before work today, but Fileplanet's site gave me errors at every turn. Now they're all gone by the time I come home...

I was getting all sorts of errors also. I entered my information on the sign-up screen and was taken to a second screen where I had to enter more information. I entered this information and hit submit. Then I was taken to the first sign-up page! The next time I tried to enter in information, I got some kind of error. This happened several different times.

Why does this have to be so difficult? I entered in my information. Now let me download the file and give me a key. I'm glad I didn't give FP any money a week ago to enter the final stress test. It's a good thing Blizzard didn't decide to leave sign-ups exclusively up to FP.

Nov 9, 2004, 12:20 AM
You don't

OK, seriously, apparently you will be able to get them from worldofwarcraft.com, but I don't think they're available yet.

The worldofwarcraft site is down, and it's been that way most of the day. I think they got seriously flooded... and it jacked up all their servers (probably windows based). I'm almost done downloading it, but i don't have a way of getting a key so it's not much good until worldofwarcraft site rejoins the living again.

QCassidy352
Nov 9, 2004, 12:34 AM
I've got quite a while to go still on my download, so whenever they get the site up again will be ok with me... as long as there are keys left!

I have the connection info on the downloader showing and it seems that I am downloading slower than the peers shown in my list. I have a 3Mb connection that I am not even close to filling. I have set my router to forward all the ports the Blizzard site listed to my PB. Is there a way to display what rate you are downloading at? If so, what rate are you getting?

The servers are taking a pounding at the moment, but it looks like it might be possible to get through. Make sure you allow cookies from the WoW site, since I spent half an hour wrestling with it until I tried that. Be ready for a long load time on anything you do, too.

I just made it through. See you on the servers!

i've downloaded it from fileplanet TWICE and both times it hits 2GB downloaded and just stops. sweetness. i logged into www.worldsofwarcraft.com and the link to the Mac downloader is broken. sweetness. getting it insanely slowly from BT at the moment. insanity this is... insanity!

I was never able to get the fileplanet download to start.

I downloaded for a looong time using the worldofwarcraft.com downloader...was only getting about 30kb/s down. taking forever...

SO, now a friend has split it up and put it on his web server...hopefully when I attempt to put it back together it will come out all right....we'll see.

What browser are you using? I heard that Firefox and IE only allow a 2 GB download limit. Try Safari (worked for me) or Netscape.

Nov 9, 2004, 01:08 PM
I might have done this the hard way?, but you guys shouldn't be downloading the whole damn thing through safari/IE/foxfire/whatever. Blizzard has a P2P app thats only ~640k that allows you to download the game (all 2.5GB). And you can get keys from their website now.

I just got a key, does anyone know if you HAVE to download the beta client, or if you have an older client, like I do from the stress test, will WoW just update the client automatically?

If nobody responds before I get home I will try it and post back here.

On a similar note, I'm wondering whether beta users will be able to 'upgrade' to the release version just by buying a 'recharge card' (ie. not needing to buy the boxed game).

You guys have all the correct ports forwarded? It only took me a few hours to download the open beta. It was consistantly downloading ~ 150 KB/s and upping at around 100KB/s.

TDM21
Nov 9, 2004, 03:42 PM
I could not use the downloader hardly. I'm on my schools network and they don't have any of the required ports open. I did try to download it, but only got 300 mb in 6 hours. I went back to fileplanet this morning and was able to download the beta. I got it in about 1.5 hours. I've spent the last hour+ installing the moster and its almost finished. YAY

I'm getting really close to being done downloading.

I think the bt client for the wow downloader is set to attempt to equalize your up and down speeds. I was uploading faster than downloading, slightly. (both averaging 30-35 kb/s).

24 hrs later, getting very close. Can't wait to get my hunter on...

I still don't know why it's so slow for you guys.. lol.. oh well.
