Hello photo editing MEGACENTER!

admittedly, I'm a nOOb when it comes to macs (although not iphones), but i'm excited to finally own one and eager to learn.

So, tell me, what are some of the "must haves"?

Also, does anybody know of a good free FTP program for macs?

I wish I had a setup like that in my toilet also. ;)

Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend doing it.

UG..

Just happened to have a large chunk of white space open on the desktop and noticed a nice peice of dirt or something under the glass screen in the lower left corner..

this prompted me to change the entire screen white to see what else I might find and sure enough, there's another spec on the right side near the bottom corner.

I haven't really installed anything on this yet, and I bought it at Best Buy, so I think I'll just return it for one that isn't messed up tomorrow..

so frustrating though.. especially when you consider that my brand new iphone 4 had the same issue and I had to return it a day later..

I'm having bad apple luck lately.

Or the "normal Apple experience" as of late. :p Just FYI, I had two really bad iMacs I had to return. Hopefully your next one turns out to be good. They are nice machines if they are functioning properly.

Congrats :)

Apps you should look into:

Cinch (Aerosnap for mac)
Firefox (Anything safari might not be compatible with)
VLC (Media player that plays basically anything and everything)

Thanks, I really want one, but I'm definitely going to keep returning them until I get a good one.

Upon further inspection this morning, I've also discovered that the lower right corner of the screen is nice and yellow as well..

Ok, so it gets worse..

Tonight I returned the computer to best buy, they had none in stock to replace it, so I asked how long it would take to get a replacement. They said they had one at another store roughly an hour away and it would take 4-5 days for them to get it transferred..

I said, ok, can I go pick it up? They arranged that for me, and I did.

Got it home, set it up, only to find YET another large chunk of dust AND.... what appears to be a human hair..

wow..

welp, on to imac number 3... sigh..

Dude, you should've got a new Dell. They come clean out of the box.

Welcome to the Mac family. :apple:

I probably already know this answer. But why not buy it from the Apple Store instead?

Reason I ask: I've never done it myself BUT, I've heard tell that if you buy from the Apple Store, and there is a defect such as this, they will correct the problem instead of having to wait to swap it.

Just asking.

0% financing available for qualified customers through best buy.. is the simple answer.

I talked to an apple rep earlier and he was saying that he could setup a genius bar appointment for me to have my new imac torn down and clean out the dust, but he did not recommend that I do that considering that my computer was still replaceable with a brand new unit through the 14 day return policy at Best Buy.

Unfortunately, Best Buy doesn't have any more in stock temporarily. I think what i'm going to try and do, is have Best Buy get a new unit on its way while I hang on to this one so I at least have a computer and then exchange it when the new one comes in.

Is the problem with the second machine only the speck of dust under the glass, or have you discovered more issues?

If it's only that, and if that was my computer, I'd consider cleaning it myself. The instructions can be found on the iFixit.com.

I'm only suggesting this because a new unit may have other issues (which was my case, straightened out with a bit of DIY eventually).

yes, and a human hair..

I'm not about to tear into this thing myself. I'll just keep returning them until I get a good one :)

I'd certainly exchange for dust under the glass...but for the love of all that is holy, don't get caught up on the yellow screen syndrome this forum seems to have.

Why go thru all the trouble of returning when you can pull the screen glass off and wipe out the dirt with a clean cloth in 30 seconds?

If you're still having problems tell them to make you TURN IT ON AT THE STORE.

If they say no say you'll return it and make them give you a free refund.

you make it sound oh so simple, but I'd really rather not have to crack into my brand new computer.

Do you recommend I bring it to the apple store and have a professional deal with it?

It really is very simple. I swapped out my original HDD for an SSD and was able to remove the glass with just my bare hands (no need for suction cups). It's just held on with magnets. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then yeah, take it to the Apple store and have them do it. If the computer is flawless except for dirt on the screen, there's no point exchanging for a new one.

Just spoke with my local apple store, they also assured me that it's no big deal and would take them about 15 minutes, so rather than play the return game anymore, I'm just going to take it in.

Thanks
