I know this isn't news but I had to shout out.
I was sitting around playing SOCOM 2 online yesterday when all of the sudden my P2 froze. Ok, no big deal, SOCOM 2 crashes from time to time. Then I reset the console....
*unearthly, ear-splitting screams of the dammned*
DISK READ ERROR!!!!!!
This is the FOURTH PS2 that I've gone through. The first one lasted around 3 years before succumbing to DRE, but the next three fragged out WAY too fast. I had one go down with DRE's two days after I bought it. If there's one product that it pays to get Best Buy's replacement plan for, this is it (I'm gald I did). I still have my first PS2 (didn't get the plan on that one), and one of these days I'm going to bust out my soldering iron and try the fixes I see scattered around the 'net. I'm really hoping that Sony did something about improving the DVD-ROM unit in the new PStwo. This console is flakier than my friend's Powerbook 5300cs was...
Well, off to get a replacement...any bets on how long we'll go this time?
